Default Plug in RAV4 testing.

https://news.google.com/articles/CAI...A&ceid=CA%3Aen

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV could be getting some serious competition as spy photographers have caught what appears to a plug-in hybrid Toyota RAV4.

The model doesn’t look too special at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals what’s believed to be a charging port on the passenger side rear fender. There doesn’t appear to be any other changes, but that’s not too surprising as this appears to be a powertrain testing prototype.

Little is known about the model, but it will likely use the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that powers the RAV4 Hybrid. That engine produces 176 hp (131 kW / 178 PS) and 163 lb-ft (221 Nm) of torque.

Thank you for the article. Indeed, about time. Just the thing I'm looking for. I can see it coming out 2020. It's on my watch list.

If true, I will be watching and awaiting the next-generation NX, with hope that there will be a NX Plug-in Hybrid. My wife could then do her daily commute on battery power only and recharge at home overnight; on weekends, she could drive further with no range anxiety.

Something tells me the UX PHEV will be the next creation.

When a plug-in hybrid can obtain a range of 50 miles it will be a winner. As you said 90% of the time I will be using electric power. A long trip no looking for a charging station that I have to spend one hour waiting as opposed to filling up on gas in five minutes.

Nobody waits an hour at a Supercharger. You get to 80% in less than 30 minutes using a 150kwh charger. Which is 250 miles (you dont go above 80% unless you charge overnight in anticipation of a long trip). That charge will cost about $10. I'd rather wait 30 min for $10 worth of fuel vs 10 minutes for $60 of premium but that's just me. Level 3 chargers will get to 80% in about 15 minutes. They are just starting to roll out.

You're wasting your time some people are desperate to convince themselves EVs are no good, they are not trying to convince you or me.

Some of the news is fake......some of it isn't. Overall, EVs, under the current conditions we have in most of the U.S. outside of CA, are being overhyped.

Most is fake news. It's easy to tell you'll have an article about a particular Tesla model or features of, as soon as they go off on a tangent about financials, environmentalism, sustainable business model in general etc. you know what the agenda is. The icing on the cake will be how bad lithium mining supposedly is.

Charging times will probably be mixed in there somewhere, basically every perceived negative.

I have stated here I will be first in line for a Lexus EV. EV are the future but will not be through Tesla. Will however give Musk credit for getting the ball rolling. When Lexus comes out with one EV SUV and sedan the two will out sell Tesla alone if Tesla is still in business. In July, J B Straubel chief of technology operations a long time employee left. Analyst state he was second in command behind Musk. In January their CFO Ahuja another long time employee left. Musk has lost most his executive team.

Fake news is funny. All easily verifiable FACTS. Over 40% of Tesla's are sold in California. From the Wall Street Journal; Registrations of new Model S sedans in the second quarter plummeted 54% to 1,205 in California, according to the Dominion Cross-Sell report. Registrations of Tesla’s expensive Model X sport-utility vehicle also fell by about 40% in California during the quarter. Model 3 sales have dropped 40% nationally from 21,225 units in June to 13,450 units in July. Tesla sales are plummeting. Their stock is plummeting. It's stock is down -35% year to date while the S&P is up 15%. They lost 702 million in the first quarter and 408 million in the second quarter. After 17 years they are headed by far for their worst lost ever. They have never had one profitable year.

Listen to their earnings call. They are in their investment phase so no they will not be profitable. They are cash flow positive. Their depreciation is causing their losses as its understood due to their massive investment in multiple factories. They SHOULD NOT be profitable now. They are in growth phase of their expansion. They will be operational for a very long time. It also has nothing to do with their cars. My Model 3 is faaaaar better than any Lexus I have ever driven. I've had multiple Lexus's. Give me the almost $0 running costs and instantaneous acceleration with unbelievable handling. I have a full battery every morning when I wake up and my monthly running costs are $50 extra in electricity. This car is a dream to own.
