Default Hydrolocked my CL55

New rule, don't drive your new M/B CL55 AMG through 3 feet of standing water....

I'm not an idiot, I happen to be caught in a flash flood and could not do anything about it.

When the engine locked up, the car stopped and started filling with water, I couldn't open the door because it is all power operated and the power shorted out. I had to manually open the sunroof and crawl out.

Thank god for Progressive Insurance.. This will only cost me $250.00

I think I'll get a silver one next time.. me and black cars don't get along well.
I'll post some sad pictures soon....

That sucks. Hope it was'nt salt water. Sounds like it was since it shorted out the electrical so fast. Good Luck.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine in her CLK down here in Miami. She had her car parked in her parking lot at her apartment complex. It proceeded to rain and flood the parking lot which flooded her engine. They, the insurance, towed her car to the MB dealership which proceeded to replace the engine.

Default similar story but happier ending

My 1987 Grand National got stuck in a flash flood when I was driving it and the engine quit in about 1 1/2 feet of water. The intake (which I had lowered for cold air) gulped in a bunch of water and the motor stalled. LUCKY for me the water got sucked into the intercooler - which filled up and choked the motor - not a drop got in the engine. Lesson? Learn to love the intercooler!! Saved my car.

well, i believe it was brackish water (part salt part fresh) and when the car stalled I tried to restart it, at that point I could smell electrical burning. I wans't to worried about a fire (because the car was filling with water). But i did remember to read the owners manual on how to manually open the sunroof. The car was totalled out when the insurance company found out that the water reached the top of the dash inside the car. Aw well... I have gap coverage on my insurance, so I won't have to pay anything other than a $250 deduct.

AMAZING. ............ and

Props to you for thinking so quickly on your feet. Me, I probly would have "gone down with the ship" as they say. There are only a few things that would cause me to freeze up, but watching a $150,000 car being destroyed right before my eyes is probably one of them.

I think it's safe to say that Progressive will be non-renewing your auto policy at the end of its term.

Allstate does it, or just raises them to astronomical rates so that you leave

Progressive explained to me that they would not drop me. Plus, the car was a business write-off so we are covered under our fleet vehicle insurance coverage with progressive. We have 15 vehicles under that coverage, so I don't think I'll have too many problems.

The H2 Hummer would have probably made it through, there is a business owner down the street from me that has one and he takes the same route as me to work everyday and thursday it rained just as hard and flooded areas that police had blocked off. He was infront of me in his hummer and they let him through.. He seemed to get through just fine, and there was a good 2-3 feet of water there.

Trust me, seeing your car underwater isn't a pretty sight, especially because I had my Dell Laptop, HP Ipaq, wallet, and several thousand dollars worth of contracts in the passanger seat that "when down with the ship"....

Sad day.

but hey, I'm still alive...
