I don't subscribe to any Youtube "channel". Does that mean they don't get any compensation from me? I do watch a lot of reviews, but have no desire to subscribe to any.

No, they get revenue from every view they have, and every ad that's played. Subscriptions and notifications increase their pay per ad I believe

I think you have to watch the full ad. You can’t skip. And you can menu out.

They have the ability to run different kinds of ads where they get paid more.

They get paid for every ad view whether its skipped or not, but they can also choose to run an ad that you cannot skip and get paid more, but they risk losing views that way. They also get paid more I believe for an ad in the middle of the video vs at the beginning.

Only if its the ad that you can't skip. Most videos have the ad you can skip, and the person absolutely gets paid whether the viewer watches the ad or not.

Yes. But you can just menu out, thus skipping the ad and the rest of the video. I have noticed on my Apple TV, he does not have very many pre-ads. It just goes right to his show.

Well thats different, if you don't watch the video you dont get the length of the view, which has an impact too. What you describe is why putting the ad at the beginning that you cant skip is risky.

There is also some way some channels only have ads on the computer and not on Apple TV, etc...

From what I understand, the whole thing is really complicated.
