As I see it, it was indeed the end of days in one sense. Many of those who bought Cayennes, especially initially, probably bought them more because they were upscale European SUVs rather than specifically for the Porsche name....probably the same for SUVs like the Jaguar E-Pace, Maserati Levante, Mercedes M-Class/GL-class, BMW 6-series, etc..... The true enthusiasts stayed with the regular sedans, coupes, and sports cars.

That makes sense. If one simply wants an SUV for utility purposes, there are many less-expensive (or competing) SUVs that will do the job, and if one wants traditional Porsche handling, there is always the Boxster/Cayman, Carrera, and 911....and Panamera, if you want a back seat.

Maybe not, but Andrew still has a good point....a Porsche SUV probably makes even less sense.
Remember when I reviewed the 1Gen Panamera (and described that near-accident with that carelessly-driven Honda Civic that the Panamera avoided only by its excellent handling and my quick reflexes)? You said, back then, that you though it was the best review I had done up to that point.
