To answer OP's question. No, buying counterfeit goods is not illegal, there is no federal law that prohibits an individual to buy fakes. However, if you import such items with an intent to sell, meaning, you are buying in bulk, then you will be fined and could face jail time. Buying for personal use is not a problem.
