Surprised the 4.3-liter V8 from cars such as the GS 430 and LS 430 wasn't mentioned over the 8AR. The 8AR is pretty fresh and has its share of issues (such as boost regulators going out), and it's not exactly competitive with the German turbocharged four-cylinders. The 430 on the other hand, is a pretty sweet engine from what I have heard, and reliable.

That might maybe make part two of the list?????

considering the current state of affairs i'm surprised the B58 isn't on this list

Best Lexus powerplant? I totally agree with the 2JZGE 3.0L in-line six. Smooth-running, quiet, reliable, and solid as an iron anvil.

I agree. Maybe bc they used the original UZ as an example? But yes, the 4.3 was the last (and upgraded) variant of the UZ. It's an amazing engine.

We have an IS350 with the 3.5 that this article gushed over--it's smooth (and very potent) but not even remotely close to how smooth my 4.3 is. Like, night and day difference.

The 2GR is an all-around great engine, but I think it shines when pushing it hard. For a luxury-car engine, the idle could be a little smoother. But I love mine as well. Suits the car well. :)

I agree. It's like a monster that wakes right up (scream and all) when you boot it. I don't drive our IS very much because I don't want to get into trouble, lol. It's hard to resist flooring it.

it definitely doesn't waft you along like the UZ, but once the rpms get up there it really pulls nicely and will out accelerate any UZ powered LS

a few times i've thought about what things would be like if i got rid of the benz for a 2JZ-GTE swapped first gen IS, that seems like the cheapest most economical way to be 2JZing around since that's what i really want... i don't need the whole rest of the supra just yet

Best engine. By far the 4.7 used in the BOF SUVs.

Yep....however, I'm not completely sold that our IS350 would beat my LS above 90-100. It's a shame we can't drive cars this fast and that your average 430 never did, because it has some serious highway legs. At the very least it would be much closer than a 0-60 run. I've driven both cars at very fast speeds and the acceleration advantage the IS has shrinks the faster you go, at least that's what I've observed. I vastly prefer my V8, not having to crest 2100 RPM is what makes a luxury car a luxury car. But that 3.5 is unbreakable too, and plenty potent. It's a great match for the IS.

Nah. While extremely robust with the iron block and all, those trucks were way too slow so I can't agree it deserves a spot. Yes it was a great engine but those trucks were ridiculously underpowered, even back then.

So you are basically listing out almost every single engine that Lexus used. So all Lexus engines are the best?

lol I wouldn't disagree with that

idk I thought the 350 seemed to pull a bit harder than my car once the rpms get up there, and you know it kills me to admit that lol since I want my LS to always be the best
