sad the 10+ year old platform of Challenger outsells this much newer design
Why is it sad? The Challenger does exactly what it is supposed to do...be a strong retro design that appeals equally strongly to those Baby Boomers who grew up with the original Challenger 50 years ago.
Nearly all Challenger and Camaro buyers in SoCal are high school and college-aged street racers. Very little else. I doubt it's too much different elsewhere, but may vary a bit by state.

shows how bad GMs design department is, even the sierra and silverado "redesign" are lacking and Ram is starting to eat their lunch

In my area (D.C. suburbs) the Challenger is quite popular with those who owned or drove them almost 50 years ago. That's also the case, to some extent, in this area with the Mustang, though I notice that the Mustang, in general, is a little more popular with older females. The Challenger seems to be much more of a strictly-male car. Hard to tell with the Camaro..it seems to have a wider range of buyers than the other two.
(I don't believe in automotive stereotypes, but just noticing patterns in my area)
