just thought of a case where Japanese is superior
Floor mats. A 3rd gen LS post made me think of this. The floor mats, OE, that came with my 1998 Maxima, and 2006 LS, are superior to those of my 2007 335i.
I think that is a strange miss for BMW.
The BMW came with both sets of mats, summer, and winter, for no charge, as I got the car new. The winters are made by weathertech, and very poorly cut. They get caught in the clutch and were clearly not measured for a manual. The summers are carpet, and plain cheap. They have been in my basement for 12 years unused.
The Maxima's mats are carpet, excellent and durable (heck they are what 21 years old), and held snugly in place via a hook and grommet.
The LS' mats, for whatever reason, back in 2016, were available online for $15. These were the factory mats, but only charcoal. The ones that my car had, ivory, were like $95-$105. I ended up getting the charcoal and found they are nice, heavy, excellent.
Even my wife's GM has winter mats, OE GM, made in Korea, superior to my BMWs.
p.s. the trunk mat that came with most 3rd gen LS' as an accessory is super heavy, excellent, as is my wife's GM. Trunk mat for my BMW is a cheap weathertech....

The dealer threw a set of Lexus OEM all weather mats with my 07 IS. They were good, but starting to crack; but Lexus recalled them because someone was killed when the accelerator in an ES loaner got stuck under a mat. They replaced them with all weather mats of much lesser quality.
My wife's 12 CX-9 carpeted OEM mats are wearing a hole by the driver's heel.
My '14 BMW has OEM all weather mats that show 0 sign of wear in 50,000 miles. Same with the BMW OEM trunk mat--but I don't keep much in the trunk for it to get worn out.

Too small a sample size.

It is a bit funny how serious the Asians are about securing the mats. I have the new ones for the LS but did not install, I'm not planning on suing Toyota Motor anytime soon

to paint an entire country's 'superiority' vs another based on floor mats in one car vs another car from another country is a joke.
