Post A Look at the new Mercedes CLA35

IMO, not all that special but my guess is it'll sell pretty good.

Source: https://carbuzz.com/news/here-s-your...des-amg-cla-35

The A35 is about to get even better looking.

Entry-level luxury cars are great because they allow people to get in on the bottom floor of a luxury brand at prices comparable to fully-loaded mainstream models. Business for entry-level luxury sales have been so good, automakers have now expanded their performance brand with new entry models like the recently-revealed Mercedes-AMG A 35. The A35 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder pumping out 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque mated to its 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. With 0-60 mph taking just 4.7 seconds, it should be a great competitor to the Audi S3.
Even though the A35 was just revealed, Mercedes-AMG isn't taking a break and has just teased its next model, the CLA 35. The German automaker posted its first teaser on Facebook showing the rear end of the car in an exciting shade of yellow. The teaser includes the caption "Stunning from every angle. The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC. More to come."

We aren't sure exactly when the CLA 35 will make its official debut (perhaps in New York later this month) but when it does arrive, we expect it to feature identical power and performance figures as the A35. When it eventually goes on sale, we expect the CLA35 to cost a bit more than its A 35 counterpart because Mercedes typically sells its four-door-coupe models at a premium.
The A35 and CLA 35 will likely be followed up with even more hardcore 45 AMG variants producing well over 400 hp, which should give the Audi RS3 and BMW M2 Competition a run for their money. In this day and age when crossover and SUV sales are dominant, we are surprised to see Mercedes offer not one, but two separate sub-compact sedans. Of course, the A and CLA-Class eventually will be joined by a new GLA SUV and an upcoming mini-G-Class model called the GLB, both of which will ride on the same platform with a higher ride height.

This is such a stupid trend of naming cars with numbers that gives it the impression of having a bigger engine when it has a much smaller engine. With a name like CLA35, it gives the impression it has a 3.5 liter 6 cylinder when it only has a 2 liter 4 cylinder. Who are they trying to fool?

LOL my coworker said he got a Q50. I said sweet, that's got a turbo V6 right (figuring Nissan does the 3 liter V6 and 5 is much higher than 3)? He goes no, it's a 4 cyl.

How does a model with the number 50, have a 2 liter 4 cyl....

Infiniti, like Genesis and Audi, names their cars based on size rather than displacement. They used to use the displacement-based naming scheme back in the days of the G37 (which had a 3.7-liter V6).

Just not a fan. I really dislike that droopy look that Mercedes seems to love so much.

But as mentioned long ago. My former friend texts me a pic of a then 2 y.o. CLA 45 AMG, "Wow! How much is this one, $120,000?" I reply, "maybe $35,000?"

Isn't that good for MB and people who drive the CLA? I agree it's not good looking at all.

won't comment on who the fool is, but maybe not everyone is having this 'impression'. these number variants are NOTHING NEW. a 1993 mercedes 190 had a 2.3L 4 or a 2.6L 6.

i guess you think my g90 has a 9 liter engine.

while there's been a lot of models that have correlated engine size and model number, there's probably been at least as many that haven't and in recent years with hybrids, electrics, turbos, etc., the idea of continuing to do that is also confusing and largely irrelevant.

about this cla35... 0-60 in 4.7 is impressive! but a tesla 3 will destroy it. glory days of gas burner performance are over.

You just reminded me of the new building tour I took earlier this year, where there was a generator in the basement. Even I thought wow, straight 8! But no, it was a V16, and when I googled it, the displacement is 83 liters. And I thought a truck's engine being 15 liters was big....

p.s. I wish your G90 had a 9.0L that would be very cool. No turbos needed!

What if Mercedes Benz said F it, we make every kind of car for every type of person. Don't hate us for doing that. If there is no demand, we won't build it.

I mean in Canada I have seen strange diminutive MBs that we don't have in the USA. Toyota sells models throughout the world, that we don't have.

So in the brochure, on page 3, they list out real AMGs, and vehicles given an AMG badge....so nobody has to wonder or remember 6 or not 6 for current models...

well yea in europe they've had the a class and the b class, but to me the only person who'd get a regular CLA250 is just someone who wants their car to say mercedes on it

i mean the CLA is like camry V6 money which is much more car, but i'm sure C class owners are grateful for the CLA haha

Were you trying to imply or say I am a fool?
