My point exactly. It doesn't get the attention it deserves from the size of the local market in sales.

They COULD, but they DON'T and theres a reason they dont.
Simple habit...follow the leader.

The US Government COULD relocate the Capitol to Pheonix, AZ...is that ever going to happen? Doubtful.
Irrelevant to what we are discussing.

OK....IMO, enough about the show itself (I don't say that as a moderator, but from the fact that IMO it's nothing that any of us, at our level, can do anything about, anyway, whatever our thoughts or opinions are).

On another line of thought, do any of you have any particular paint-color (or colors) not currently in production, that you would particularly want? Blacks, grays, silvers, and whites seem to be the overriding sales these days..seems like a lot of people simply don't care about color or want a neutral one. For a long time, I didn't like black, tan, silver, or gray, although GM's Pepperdust (which is a gray/gold metallic depending on the sunlight), and Lexus's Atomic Silver, which is a stunning metallic shade, at least partly changed my mind on that. My personal favorite has always been Amythist..a purplish-gray, which a few manufacturers do, but is not widespread. I also like Sunset/Desert-Orange, medium or light Turquoise/Aqua (blue-green), and a very light pastel yellowish-tan.

Which, if any, colors would you like to see that are not offered? I'll jot them down and mention them to some of the reps there. Unlike the big Detroit show, the reps at the D.C. show are usually only low-grade "Product Specialists"...but they do take down customer suggestions, and include them in their after-show reports to management. As one example, Dodge brought back several of the classic 1970-71 rainbow-colors on the Charger and Challenger from a lot of show-input from potential customers.

In 2016 he talked about autonomous vehicles and electric cars with a sitdown in a Bolt.
That's exactly my point. A POTUS poking around during public hours of any car show is a campaign stop, not a visit to obtain hard information to roll out an alternative fuel automotive policy, as @mmarshall believes. I don't care if politicians do this; it's perfectly normal. But the point was--that's ALL it was. If the administration was developing hard policy, they'd invite auto execs to a sit-down at the WH.

Sorry.....with all due respect, I just don't agree with that argument. How does one campaign with no one else in the room?...and with an army of bodyguards all around? The Secret Service, for several hours, forced most of us upstairs, off the bottom floor, like sheep. Even Obama himself must have realized it was a mistake.....he didn't do that again (at least here in D.C.) for the rest of his Presidency.

Obama visited the DC show in 2012. The same year as his reelection would go through. Because Obama bailed out the auto industry and because it was controversial what he did, Obama wanted to score points with those in Michigan who would be watching.

Thanks for the timing perspective on this. This happened 7 years ago! It might be time to move on.

Don't tell me to move on. I am not the one who brings up Obama and the D.C. show. I could really care less about the show.

In one way, we have moved on......to Trump.

One of the reasons I brought up the subject of Obama being there was in response to comments/questions on the importance of the D.C. Show...and why it was bumped up from a Class B to a borderline Class A show. It is the only major show in the country (with the possible exception of the Baltimore Auto show, only 40 mies away, a somewhat smaller show), where the national government is very close by. That also makes a difference for lobbyists from the auto industry itself.

If some people don't care about the show....fine. They don't have to comment.

What you don't understand is shows like the industry shows in Detroit, New York, etc are not about the local market, they're about exposing vehicles to the industry as a whole. Its like any other industry trade show.

Our DC show is about the local market, hence why its put on by the dealers association.

How large or small the local market is doesn't have any impact on the reach an industry show has.

Simple habit...follow the leader.
You denigrate that "habit", but more often than not reinventing the wheel doesnt make any business sense.

and why it was bumped up from a Class B to a borderline Class A show.
These "classes" are simply your own invention...

It was so peaceful around here for a couple weeks...

I suspect the new Bronco will be one of the feature displays....I'll bet it draws a good crowd.
It will also be a good chance to try out the camera in my new i-Phone7, though my 7 lacks the wider camera-view of the 7-Plus.

There are a bunch of experiences this year. Jaguar iPace was very fun, the Land Rover off road experience is back and there is an EV ride and drive. There is a lot less staging and walls this year. Just cars spread out and easy to navigate

^^^^^ Thanks. Nice shot from the show's lower floor. I see you are at the Acura display...with Lincoln right across the center-aisle, Lexus to the left, and the escalators behind. That agrees with this year's published floor-plan.

I'll be down on the lower floor sometime next week. I usually do the upper floor on the first day, and take in some manufacturer test-drives around the show circuit, though the weather may be rainy tomorrow and not the best for a drive.
