Lexus lying in their marketing?

The general public doesn't know the difference between "hybrid" and "electric"? That seems like it might have been true 10 years ago, but then, there were very few electric vehicles, whereas now, the Tesla models and Nissan Leaf alone make EVs pretty hard to miss.

If anyone finds a copy of the advertisement online, can you please post it? I have searched but I don't think I've found the right one. All the ones I can find refer to it as a "self-charging hybrid" and not a "self charging electric".

I found this one, for their complete Hybrid lineup:
The Lexus Canada site refers to them as "Lexus Self-Charging Hybrids".
https://www.lexus.ca/lexus/en/automobiles/hybrids
This one can't be it, because it's in Spanish, but it refers to the UX again, as a "self-charging hybrid".
I simply cannot find any Lexus literature or videos that refer to them as "self-charging electrics".

"Self-charging hybrid" distinguishes it from "plug-in hybrid", so that actually is a valid name to market it as.

Yes, that is true, but a (typical) plug-in hybrid cannot fully recharge the battery only from the engine; to fully recharge the battery requires it to be plugged in to the wall (which could take many, many hours from a normal 120-volt outlet). This, I believe, is what Toyota and Lexus are selling -- no need to leave the vehicle plugged in for hours to recharge.
