I'd chose a 4Runner like this one (V6, 130k miles, $13,883), even though it's not loaded:

Or a gently used Highlander like this one (V6, 75k miles, $14,999):

Or Acura MDX(older models are very reliable), Honda Pilot.

Stick with something Toyota primarily that has a solid frame. And Always doo a PPI or lookover by someone who knows their beans. If the owner can come up with records and you can verify them online (lexus owners websites) the better. Always take a test drive, check fluids before and after, and exhaust area before and after. If the seller allows basics to determine what you are getting
engine: compression test
powertrain: oil color and stop and go traffic
exhaust area: oil burner
lift inspection for chassis rust etc
Again a PPI or a trusted mechanic of your choosing is the best.
Hondas are solid with their ole 3.5 but be wary of their powertrains that came from factory with Z1 fluid...hot pile of.... the 2nd gen MDX is a solid ride, 1st and 3rd are terrible.
If you are adventorous one can even pick up a non-overalanding LC100 in that price, but double the miles, but those things are rock solid
And as always expectations of legendary reliability are case specific. I have seen folks disappointed to pick up an LC100 and start dumping 2k into from the beginning just cause they blindly believed that LC100s reliability was amazing.

We have the ‘11 CX-9.... Not sure I would call it underpowered, BUT we did have couple of the common problems that plague them - brake booster (Mazda extended the warranty on it to 100k, had ours done at 99,800) and transfer case - again replaced under warranty at ~50k miles.
