Audi has released several photos of the electric SUV's interior.

One of the stand-out features of the cabin is the addition of seven-inch OLED screens near where the side mirrors would normally lie: the mirrors themselves have been deleted in favor of rear-view cameras. Without conventional mirrors, and with the help of active aero and air suspension that can lower the vehicle at speed, the E-Tron's drag coefficient has been reduced to just 0.28. The screens give three different views, for highways, street corners and parking. Audi says the E-Tron will be the first mass-produced car with a setup like this.

The cabin's detailing looks production-ready, with similar large screens on the dashboard and in the instrument cluster as in the freshly released Q8 flagship SUV. The E-Tron's audio equipment is courtesy of Bang & Olufsen, and the Danish hi-fi manufacturer's system consists of 16 speakers and a 705-watt amplifier. All of this should be production ready, since Audi had initially planned to launch the car in Brussels on August 30, but that was delayed following the arrest of Audi's CEO. Now the full reveal will come a little later in the U.S.

Regarding the powertrain, there will be a dual-motor setup combined with a 95-kWh lithium ion battery, which is good for 150-kW, 30-minute fast charging. The full power output of the E-Tron's electric motors has not yet been disclosed, but the range has been said to be 248 miles on the WLTP test loop, though that could be lower in U.S. testing.

is attracting lots of attention for the mirrorless virtual side mirror system fitted to its E-Tron concept electric SUV. Now, two new videos give us a better sense of just how it works.

Instead of conventional side mirrors, the battery-electric crossover offers 7-inch OLED monitors mounted inside the doors, just above the door handles. They're connected to rear-view cameras, which replace conventional side mirrors. The technology provides different angles and views for highways, street corners and parking. They're also more aerodynamic, which benefits driving range.

​​​​​​​The trapezoidal screen presents the driver with several options to adjust the view, and you can drag the image around to adjust the camera. The driver also apparently has control of the passenger-side camera.
In its press materials, Audi says the system provides comfort and safety benefits: "The driver can enter different setting using the touchscreen function. The image detail can be moved, providing the required field of vision, while the user can also zoom in and out of the image. The driver can choose from three views in the MMI system for different situations — for highway driving, for turning and for parking."

Audi originally planned to launch the E-Tron during the Audi Summit Aug. 30 in Brussels but now plans to launch it in the U.S. at a yet-to-be-determined later date. It goes on sale in Europe by year's end.

While Pebble Beach is a celebration of automotive history, it's becoming a great show for exhibiting the cars and technology of the future. Case in point: The Audi PB18 E-Tron concept, the newest electric performance concept sporting the four rings on its nose.

The styling is quite fetching, looking sleek and muscular, or, to use Audi's words, "broad and flat." The company says the concept borrows DNA from the R18 Le Mans racer, and is "visibly inspired by the wind tunnel and the race track." It's also quite reminiscent of the Audi Aicon concept that graced the stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, with one big difference: While the Aicon was all about automated driving, the PB18 features "Level Zero" autonomy. In other words, it's all about the driving experience.

Its three electric motors provide all-wheel drive and offer a combined maximum output of 500 kW (or 670 horsepower) and 612 pound-feet of torque. It'll do 0-62 miles per hour in a little over 2 seconds. A 95-kWh solid state battery provides over 310 miles of driving range on a single charge. It features a charging capability of 800 volts, which means it can juice up in about 15 minutes. It also features wireless charging capability, so you don't even have to fuss around with a cable.

The PB18 E-Tron uses aluminum, carbon and composites to save weight. In all, the car weighs less than 3,417 pounds. Placement of its battery helps put the center of gravity between the seats and the rear axle for excellent balance. It borrows its magnetic suspension technology from the R18 E-Tron Quattro Le Mans car.

Perhaps the most notable thing about this car, apart from electric performance, is its central seating position, which is ideal for racing. Or the seat can be slid to the side, along with the controls, to make room for a passenger. Its shooting-brake-ish rear end means there's room for a luggage set exclusive to this car.
