Wow, that's pretty much the shortest front overhang in the segment, isn't it?

Overall I am pleasantly surprised. I like it a lot.

I'm not sure if its the shortest overhang.

I agree. I like the design a lot too. I wasn't too surprised by it because I was on Bimmerpost and people already did mock renders to predict what it looks like. It turned out pretty accurate - almost.

Usually - its pretty easy to predict BMW's design language. Its always nothing major. But I think they did a good job evolving the design from the F30.

The front looks very Japanese/Korean IMO. I like it though.

Hello Lexus RC, how you doin?

Interested to see the dimensions on this, as the 3 has been growing to the point where it's broadly within spitting distance of a 5 Series from a generation or two back. I'd bet the G20 is about the same size as the E60 5 Series I used to own.

As for the G20 design - I like it. Thanks for posting this.

Yeah. The front does look like it has heavy Japanese design elements. But at the same time - its unmistakably still a BMW. You can tell this still evolved from the F30. I always found it interesting BMW new generation design seem more like "refresh" rather than a overhaul.

Some headlights information and pictures

BMW LED headlights:

The all New BMW "Laser Headlights":

EDIT: BMW Laser Headlights will not be available in the US-Spec G20 3 Series. Other countries can look forward to the Laser Headlights for an optional extra.
For the US Market - we will likely see either standard LED across the range with an optional extra for a premium housing headlamp that has adaptive lights.
Or - BMW can continue their F30 business plan where halogen is standard and LED is an optional extra.

Yes, please make LEDs standard... When a Corolla has standard LEDs, seems like nickel-and-diming to make you pay for them on a BMW. (And yes, I can hear you saying, what about the IS? But at least the IS gets standard HIDs and not halogens.) That was one of my main turn-offs from the 328i I was looking at back in '16. Seemed like I had to pay a lot more for one that had LEDs.

Agreed. That was the biggest problem from the F30 generation of cars and the current generation of the IS is that LED isn't standard. Its outrageous in my opinion considering "LED lights" isn't even luxury. LEDs are extremely cheap.

The F30 was pretty much either halogen (with no projectors), which pretty much made it look like a 2000s Honda Civic. Or pay extra for LEDs. At least the IS gave you HIDS as base-line, which is much better than halogens.

rear bumper also sticks out similar to RC.

I like the exterior design with sport packages shown, but interior is way too simple. Big screens are nice, but simplicity does not look luxury, unlike in Audi for instance.

I wonder if the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel are dynamic depending on what menu the Speedo is on because they surely can't be blank like that lol.

Slash300zx 10-01-18 04:59 PM

Looks like every other BMW but with a pimple in the headlights now.... also tried to be more like the Lexus RC in the back because they know how sexy it looks lol

Evolutionary for sure, but I like it. I've been looking at the new gen 5 Series but if this is just a tad bigger than the current gen (which purists will HATE) I may consider it over the 5.

Looks great overall. I particularly like the side profile from the A-pillar back. Exaggerated Hoffmeister Kink almost makes it look like it's gone so fast that the shape has distended :) The hood to windshield transition is a little awkward though:

Hopefully they keep their promise of making the G20 drive well. I mean anything will drive better than the F30, but they really need to get back to their roots from a handling perspective. I highly doubt that LED headlights will be standard. They might be a relatively inexpensive (<$1000) option--like HIDs were a $500 option on my E46--but they won't be standard until the LCI. BMW loves to hold stuff back for the mid-cycle refresh, even things that were standard on the prior model. Look at LED taillights, for example. Standard on E46 LCI, not available on E90 at release. Standard on E90 LCI, not available on F30 at launch. Standard on F30 LCI. Three generations in a row they've added, removed, and re-added the same feature :egads:

I further assume that the laser headlights won't be available at all, as every kind of cool headlight tech seems to be illegal in the US. :thumbdn:
