Saw the UX in the Flesh...
Same with the new ES, I have mixed feelings after seeing it in the person last night at a preview one-day-only showing at my dealer.
Negatives: - Not feeling the Ultra White - too stark against all the black cladding and trim. - Styling is ok but worst angle is side profile where the rear sticks out and window too slanted. - On a related note, trunk was small, mainly thanks to the shallow height. - Interior was more cramped than I expected. Rear space was marginally larger than my past CT. Front was very cozy - too cozy with a higher dash than expected adding to the tight-feeling. I'd say similar in space to a GLA from what I recall when I checked it out a couple years ago. - Materials were fine but with a bit more than expected hard plastics in the console and middle-to-lower interior sections throughout. In all fairness though, this was a prototype. - No ML - No AVS - No HUD - Don't think we get 360 cam either (no cameras under the mirrors :( ) Positives: - Looking straight from the rear, design was nicer than I thought. - F-Sport seats are nicely bolstered, hugging, and supportive (Lexus F Sport seats are best in the business to my back and legs and I expect no different with the UX's) - Interior design was nice, sporty and ergonomically correct. The new switchgear on the dash (a-la Audi A4/A5) felt solid and I liked the RTI's integrated radio controls. - Finally, like the RXh, we get an F Sport package available in Canada on a Lexus hybrid! - On that topic, got word from the top we'll get two packages, "premium"and F Sport offered on the FWD and Hybrid models with ballpark 36K -44K and ~4K-5K more for the 250h which is expected to only be offered in AWD here (these are not official, but guesstimates in the conversation). Pricing is OK in my mind and cheaper than the competition by $5-10K (X2, QX30, Q3, XC40, E-Pace, etc) but the competition offers significantly more tech, room, and power all taking a similar exterior footprint. Overall, it looked and felt like a slightly raised hatchback, aka CT. Nice if this was 5 years ago, but I don't see this as enough today to compete. My wife too was left a bit disappointed especially on how tight the interior and cargo was and we're not tall. The car dynamically will have to be superb to somewhat make up for the shortcomings in the interior materials, tech, and expected power/CVT. Thanks for sharing my elderly mom is interested in one I love the red seats hate the black cladding and terrible offset wheels my CT was the worst lexus I ever owned and that 28,000 miles were the worst 11 months of my life. I really hope it’s not as dead slow as the junk CT |
Thanks for the pics. I'm all SUV'ed out almost none of them move my give a car meter anymore including this Lexus.

I gotta say those door panels do not look becoming of a lux brand. And I also agree on the terrible offsets on those wheels, I guess this will help drive sales of wheel spacers.

Car and Driver seems to be reasonably impressed.
Even though it's being pitched as a low-priced Lexus, the UX does a better job of imitating the luxury quotient of its big siblings than the German mini-utes do. A nice mix of materials inside includes expensive-feeling plastics, soft faux leather, and an interesting trim piece on the dash that is meant to evoke a type of Japanese paper. Unfortunately, the frustrating infotainment touchpad carries over from other Lexus models. Curiously, the volume and tuning knobs have been relocated from the center stack to the center console where they're meant to fall to hand for a driver using the armrest. It seems logical, but the layout takes some getting used to, and we're not sure it's better than having those knobs on the dashboard. If the UX is a commuter car under its wild skin, it's a good car to drive. We continue to be impressed with the dynamic qualities of Toyota models that ride on the brand's TNGA family of platforms, and the UX's chassis boasts progressive-feeling steering, nicely tuned damping, and a satisfying sense of quiet refinement. It is a shame that the best version we sampled, a UX200 with the F Sport package, won't be available in the United States with the adaptive dampers that were featured on the European example we drove. Lexus to launch Complete Lease subscription service with UX crossover
Lexus is the latest premium automaker to experiment with a subscription-style program for leasing cars. Called Lexus Complete Lease, the program is set to debut in the first quarter of 2019 and will initially cover the new 2019 UX crossover. The program will offer two-year leases with a 20,000-mile limit for one non-negotiable price tag that includes the lease payment, car insurance and maintenance coverage. It's similar to the Care By Volvo subscription offered for the XC40. Lexus isn't ready to spill the beans on the exact monthly price tag yet, or to say which insurer will be providing coverage. Officials also couldn't say yet whether customers would order and configure their Complete Lease vehicle online or at a dealership. The reasoning for launching Lexus Complete Lease is similar to what we've heard from other automakers: younger shoppers find car dealerships a hassle, and bundling insurance with car payments makes the entire package more enticing. Cynthia Tenhouse, Lexus general manager of product and consumer marketing, describes it as, "a barrier-free way for [shoppers] to step up to luxury" for the first time from mainstream brands. She anticipates that lots of UX customers will be "conquest or move-ups," meaning they'll be new to the Lexus brand. The Complete Lease program will launch in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami, though Lexus will consider expanding it to other cities at a later date. Tenhouse says those locations were chosen, in part, because the UX is aimed at city-dwelling shoppers and because those cities' higher insurance costs could make the bundled subscription payment more appealing. Similarly, Lexus might expand the program to other models beyond the UX down the road.
