incorrect. The only place a vehicle can list for retail is at a dealership. A private party hopes to sell at the private party price, but often does near wholesale. If it were so easy, not one person would ever trade in a vehicle at a dealer. Also, a dealer can never pay more for a car to a customer, than they would at the distributor. They are running a business which makes more on a used car, than a new one.

Edit your car can never be worth less than what carmax will pay, because you can get that right now in 30 min. But it's a very low amount.
