My Fusion had the integrated key/fob but it wasn't a switchblade. I agree that those keys are uncomfortable in the pocket. Too big.

GM was one of the later companies to switch to an integrated fob. I remember seeing keys for 2010+ vehicles that had a separate fob from the key.
I could be wrong, but, from what I remember, VW was the first manufacturer the U.S. to use the switchblade-key. With its polished-metal parts and casing, it was a welcome change from the plastic fobs some other companies were using.

My favorite key fob ever is my wallet key for my LS460L:

Because of this key fob and the combination locks on my house, I have been able to stop carrying a keychain altogether. Its really annoying when we take the van someplace and I have to carry that key fob...

No clue why more companies don't offer this option...

If we take this one step further we get...

The Tesla key.

I was pretty floored when I saw this same thing when I test-drove a Model X not too long ago. Pretty nifty, but begging to get handed to the grocery store clerk by mistake.
