The next-gen Lexus ES appears to have a front portion that draws inspiration from that of the latest Lexus LS. The mid-size sedan’s updated Spindle grille is apparently flanked by new headlights similar to that of the flagship sedan’s triple bi-LED headlights.

The next-gen Lexus ES’ profile may not look all that different from its predecessor. At the rear, the sharper and more aggressive tail lamps somewhat remind of the previous generation Hyundai Sonata. The redesigned tailgate seems to have a swooping chrome trim covering the entire width and stretching all the way to the rear quarter panel, right above the tail lamps.

The all-new Lexus ES is expected to use the same TNGA K sedan platform as the all-new Toyota Avalon that debuted at NAIAS 2018. The car’s wheelbase will likely grow by 2 in. (50 mm) to 113 in. (2,870 mm), making more room for the passengers. Lexus could offer the redesigned model with the latest Toyota Avalon’s 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and A25A-FXS 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 650-volt electric motor. In that case, the hybrid model’s battery pack may get relocated from the trunk to under the rear passenger seat.

My 2 cents
looks like the current ES, sculpted with the LS front bumper and rear tailights inspired by the NX series. To be critical as hell, the old sonata rear ends comes out in the spy attire

So now it looks like a Hyundai Sonata in the back? How exciting.

All these cars are looking identical these days. Just take the wrap off that car, nothing "great" to see here anyways.

Nobody is going to flame you. It looks EXACTLY like the several year old Hyundai design. What is happening to Lexus lol? This is sad to see of a brand we love so much.

lol... wraparound tailights were signature ES since almost 20 years ago, with 2001 Lexus ES (XV30), and then honed in later models.

I know, it is sad that Lexus is using its own design cues when designing new model.

It seems that it will look a lot like the LS500. If the rumor is true about it growing 2" in wheelbase, then it might have more rear seat legroom than the LS.

Looks yuuuge (w 2" more wheelbase and giant front rear overhangs) rear glass so raked it looks almost like a hatchback (wish it was).
anyway, looks promising overall.

That taillight wraparound design was originated by Lexus, Hyundai just copied it. The ES has had this tail design for 15 years now.

No one can copy Hyundai, as they have very few if any original designs. It's just brands victimized by their copying lose credit for designs they originated.

Pretty soon (if not already) people will look at Audis and say they look like Hyundais. Everything looks like a Hyundai because a Hyundai looks like everything.

Massive overhangs! Some owners with steep driveways might have to be careful. Love the alloy wheel design. The chrome strip on the rear extends into the taillights, looks good. This is the first Lexus with Apple CarPlay too.

Nobody is saying Hyundai was the first at using wraparound taillights. What we are saying is that the tails on the new ES are an EXACT copy in shape of the Sonata.

Why are posting the 2002 ES? Hyundai's version is completely different and looks nothing like that car.

Was my same reaction Not too crazy about it in the Avalon when I saw it at the autoshow, but we'll have to wait and see how it's executed n the ES, if at all the same.

The zoom in looks similar to the dash shelf and screen from the RX but it could be similar to the avalon

The outer edge of the taillight is the same on both. The rest of the Sonata's tail comes from the Toyota Mark X and the Infiniti FX.

I'm sure it will be Lexus-esque. A 2015 Avalon and ES had very different dashes, I'm sure this one will be too

Yeah it has the bezel edge found in many new Lexus's. And I agree, it will have Horizontal Layers which Lexus has been using for awhile now.

---

Overall this probably means the new ES will have a 301hp V6 option and a 208 total system power hybrid model.
