Default car thieves can use a coin to stop doors from locking

In the never-ending cat-and-mouse world of car break-ins, here is the cat's latest trick....an interesting one:

This is a joke. At least on a Lexus. Have you tried this with your Buick?

It may be a joke on some vehicles, and not on others.....depending on just how the fob-system operates. I thought I'd post it just for the record. Here's another source on the subject:

I smell BS. Where is a live video demo of this happening?

How many vehicles have you been in, where the door opens when the handle is pulled the distance of a penny? This is the definition of "fake news"!

No disrespect. You post a lot of detailed reviews and are very active here. Why not give this "hack" a try and report back? Maybe video it.

if your lexus does not lock correctly, it will not give the lock beep. you can actually hear the motors make a second attempt at locking the door.

I just tried this on my BMW and my Mazda. Bogus and #FakeNews. It did not prevent the door from locking--unless the door handle was out far enough that the door wasn't actually latched--which, I'm assuming, at some point the driver would notice the door is opened because when you drive around a curve, the door would fly open.

[By the way--that was the longest 3:00 minute video I have ever watched. It literally could have been about 12 seconds long]

Reposting videos of questionable authenticity is not exactly what I would call "helpful". I would suggest it's exactly the opposite of helpful--it's like forwarding an email you got from a Nigerian Prince, in case I want to help him out.

Even the story you linked, has a link of its own in the comments: https://www.snopes.com/coin-car-handle-warning/

Thanks. I was going to try it today, but we had too much snow and ice.....got up inside the door-cracks and froze. I might try it next week, after a couple days of melting.

Was this the first snowfall for you in your area?

Yes. It was part of a system that brought unusual snow to the Deep South (especially this early in the season), even as far as Brownsville, TX (same latitude as Miami).....which is quite rare. We occasionally get storms in December in the DC area...it is not unusual. But we usually get most of our snow in January and February.
