Sell for $50,000, about the price of a Lexus GS? Try twice that, at least.

The Toyota Century is the Japanese equivalent of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class so is a class above the Lexus LS. If Lexus could only sell it for $50,000, Toyota would NOT sell it here, even if there was demand.

It might be an interesting experiment for TMC, but I doubt they would do it. It's a niche JDM vehicle for the local VIP, presidential, CEO market. Toyota is simply too cautious to even try to venture into the US market with it. You would have to get it certified for emissions, safety etc. Even the Rolls/Bentley lines it mimics are from previous versions - they've already moved on.

Toyota/Lexus are not interested in undercutting their own LS right now. They put in a lot of money into that project. Why distract from that with a higher trim upper level sedan? But in an alternate reality it could be maybe called the Lexus "Century Star". Priced at about $125K-145K.

I don't think it would sell, its lacking in the horsepower department vs a similarly priced big German sedan. I'm sure they'd offer a leather version as well, as that's what most people want, but I'd rather have the luxurious velour.

Also alacantra is a crap material IMO. It doesn't wear well at all and traps grime/dirt. All these cars with Alacantra steering wheels/gear shift *****, they look like *****e after a year or two of use. Alacantra seats hold up a little bit better, but still they don't wear nearly as well(or feel as nice) as the old school velour in old 70's/80's/early 90's cars.
