Default Purchasing an QX70S 5.0 aka FX50

About to pull the trigger on purchasing a 2014 QX70s with the 5.0L 390hp AWD V8. Primary thing that drew me to it over other cars is 1) the power 2) the styling 3) the utility of an SUV (although passenger space is a little tight), and 4) the upscale materials throughout. Any thoughts on alternatives or reasons I shouldnt get it? note: this will be our 3rd car, behind our 2017 RX350 and my 2015 commuter Camry. Just use it for weekend fun primarily.

The QX70 is more sport-oriented than most other crossover SUVs. You might like the power and handling, but make sure, on a test-drive (with properly-inflated tires) that the ride is not too stiff for your liking.....it's generally stiffer than I would prefer.

But, on the other hand, you already have a relatively smooth-riding RX350.......so you can always drive that if comfort is a priority LOL.

I was envisioning the big SUV, but the aka FX means it's really an FX, right? If a weekend car, why not get a BMW with the big 315's on the rear? Again, I understand there's a difference between one's daily driver (should be very reliable in an ideal world), and one's weekend vehicle or "toy."

I would pass - get X5M or Cayenne GTS / Turbo.

The FX even with the V8 is not that fast or special to be a weekend car.

I don't see the FX really providing much fun. It has high hp numbers, but it's not really meant to be driven in a sporty fashion. It's an SUV, which you already have. Like the vehicle itself, I think owning it would get old quickly. Also factor in the horrid fuel economy. I think there's better options out there.

I read it outperformed the Porsche. As the same AWD system like the GTR and on the same platform like the Z. If true I think that's impressive. Me personally I love the look.

Thanks for the responses so far. Check C&D and MT articles on it. It can go 0-60 in 4.9, handles very well especially with ATTESSA awd. Since its relatively small inside, its basically in same class as X6, but only costs around $27k and has very high reliability history. Sure, I’d like to play with a X6M, but its very high priced and iffy reliability.

Also, i was thinking ISF first, as a Lexus/Toyota kind of guy, but id want 2011+ which are going for $35k where i live which is out of my budget for now.

Actually it is pretty accurate. The FX-50 suffered as a sport utility vehicle because Infiniti put a major focus on sport and pretty much ignored the utility part. It is a blast to drive, but is pretty small inside.

I drove it several times and was not impressed at all.

The 1st gen was much more memorable.

So, the QX70s was sold, but I found another low mileage FX50s at an Infiniti dealership. I was contemplating between that and a Q50/Q50 Red Sport 400 in AWD (ya, not really apples to oranges comparison, but stay with me). Drove the Q60 RS AWD and loved it, but wanted a direct comparison against the FX50s, as the Q60 is about 2.5X the price. So the salesman suggested that we drag race both cars against each other, and I would take home the winner. I was astounded he actually suggested this, but it seemed like fun, and i wanted the Q60 anyways! So he went out in the Q60 and myself in the FX50 where we drove to a deserted area and did an impromptu drag race at some stop lights. Surprisingly, we both tied, again and again, for about 4 runs. Was actually very disappointed and let down, since I wanted that Q60, however I love the FX50s and what it has: V8, AWD, high seating position, ample cargo room (with seat down), and a cheap price to boot. So, I went home with the FX50s after all.....

ps. ill probably be selling my Camry and making this my daily, and maybe pickup another coupe (G37s?) for weekend toy.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw the FX/QX on the road. It zoomed past me on an incline bridge doing 60-70mph.
I was like WTF is that thing!!! I’ve always admired the styling of that vehicle. It may be polarizing to some but I think it’s still pretty badass

Congrats. But please refrain from street racing. Four just died two blocks away from me over the weekend doing the same. These accidents happen every day, as the public isn't prepared for your aggressive moves. Public streets are not the place for racing.

Strange vehicle for your 3rd car and weekend fun. Thought you say Miata for the weekend
