  • Best All-Time Tucson and CUV September Sales
  • Three-Millionth Elantra Sold During the Month And Donated to a First Responder Hero in Baytown, Texas
  • Genesis Sales Up 43 Percent
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 3, 2017Hyundai Motor America today reported September sales of Hyundai and Genesis branded vehicles of 57,007 units, a 14 percent decline compared with the company’s best all-time September in 2016. CUV sales continue to grow with both Tucson and Santa Fe up compared with a year ago and Tucson achieving a record September, up 38 percent year-over-year. The overall monthly sales decline continues to be attributed to a reduction in fleet sales that were down 37 percent from a year ago.

HYUNDAI BRAND HIGHLIGHTS
“The Hyundai
Tucson continues to be a standout with another month over 10,000 units, leading to our best CUV September of all time,” said John Angevine, director, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “While our car-to-SUV mix is improving, it’s still in an inverse position to the industry. Despite that, we’ve retained our retail market share for the year.”

September was a busy month for Hyundai with several significant product and technology launches, and corporate initiatives. On the product and technology front, the all-new
2018 Accent made its U.S. debut at the Orange County Auto Show, a new Rear Occupant Alert system was unveiled, Elantra was named highest in overall owner experience for vehicle technology by J.D. Power and the first SEMA display car was released, the i30N that successfully competed in the 24-hours of Nurburgring. Hyundai Motor America also welcomed its new president and CEO, Kenny Lee, opened more than 100 EV charging stations at its headquarters, gave its three-millionth Elantra sold to a first responder hero in Texas and is preparing a major announcement for its renowned Assurance program on Oct. 10.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels, Hyundai’s non-profit organization committed to the fight against pediatric cancer, launched its
annual campaign in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September as well. Throughout the month, Hope On Wheels awarded 40 research grants to children’s hospitals across the country, adding $8.5 million in critical funds to the field of pediatric cancer research.

GENESIS BRAND HIGHLIGHTS
September Genesis sales totaled 1,736, a 43 percent increase over last year.

“Our G80 and G90 sedan lineup saw strong demand as the summer sales season wound to a close,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. market. “Additionally, we couldn’t be more proud of the accolades our brand collected during that time. Our brand or products gathered awards from distinguished third parties like J.D. Power, AutoPacific and Strategic Vision while our product’s safety capabilities were recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”

Hyundai + Genesis combined sell only 57k cars? That's on par with Subaru which did 55k cars. This is niche brand territory.

love the LFA but quite a trick to sell a 5 year old car as 'new'.

I don't know if you should see it as Hyundai and Genesis going down, or just the immense growth that Subaru has had to become more mainstream, and less niche. VW at 32K units or Mazda at ~26K units is probably more "niche" in my opinion.

LC must not be selling at all. My local dealer just emailed me offering 48hr test drive.

I predicted this when they announced pricing. Its just way overpriced for the level of performance and prestige it provides.
There are so many competitors and the people that are buying luxury coupes for over $100k, bragging rights are a big thing.
The other issue is poor marketing by Lexus. Put this thing in a movie, TV show, video game, rap/music video, etc. It has to be made "cool" - right now most ppl don't it exists.

  • Land Rover achieved its best ever September, up 14% with strong sales across the Range Rover family
  • Jaguar brand increases 24% for its best September since 2004, powered by continuous growth of the Jaguar F-PACE
(MAHWAH, NJ) – October 3, 2017 -- Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC today reported September 2017 U.S. sales: Jaguar sales were 3,296 units, a 24 percent increase from 2,662 units in September 2016; Land Rover sales increased 14 percent to 6,407 units from 5,637 in September 2016; Jaguar Land Rover September U.S. sales for both brands hit 9,703 units, a 17 percent increase from 8,299 units in September 2016. Year to date, Jaguar Land Rover is up 13% percent in the United States, building on 2016's record year sales pace.

“September was a strong month for Jaguar Land Rover in the U.S. with both brands powered by demand for our newest SUV models, the Jaguar F-PACE and Range Rover Velar,” said Joe Eberhardt, President and CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. “We look forward to a strong final two months of the year with our strongest lineups ever.”

U.S. BRAND HIGHLIGHTS

Land Rover
For the month of September, Land Rover sales reached 6,407 units, the best ever month of September sales in the history of the brand in the U.S. The previous best record was set in 2015, with the sale of 5,855 units. Year-to-date, Land Rover brand sales, 54,481, in the U.S. are on par with the 2016 record pace of 54,391.

The Range Rover SUV continues its remarkable performance with 1,178 sales, up 17 percent from 1,006 units sold in September 2016. The new Range Rover Velar, with its first full month of sales in the U.S., added 1,244 units to the record total.

The Discovery Sport decreased slightly in September with 1,173 units sold, down 2 percent from 1,201 units sold in September 2016 due to the model year transition.

The 2017 Land Rover model line-up features 6 models. The Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque compete within the compact SUV arena, both powered by the 240-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engines. The all-new full-size Discovery features available seven passenger seating and all-new levels of refinement, passenger technology and driver assistance options. The all new Range Rover Velar mid-size SUV brings a new level of refinement and technology to the marketplace, starting at $49,9001. Exceptional performance comes from the range of three petrol and diesel powertrains, all matched to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport model lines expanded for 2017, each with a new model. Replacing the limited edition HST model in the Range Rover Sport line-up, the Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic features a 380-hp supercharged V6 engine, dynamic body trim appointments and black trim finishes. Within the full-size Range Rover line-up, Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has introduced the SVAutobiography Dynamic. Based off of the long wheelbase SVAutobiography, the SVAutobiography Dynamic offers a driver focused experience through a standard wheelbase, suspension and chassis tuning and a lowered ride height. Both Range Rover model lines feature five powertrain options – a 340-hp supercharged V6, a 380-hp supercharged V6, a 510-hp supercharged V8, a 550-hp supercharged V8 and a new 254-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel.

JaguarFor the month of September, Jaguar sales were 3,296 units, a 24 percent increase from 2,662 units in September 2016. Year to date, the Jaguar brand has increased 49% percent to 30,228 sales from 20,349 sales year-to-date in 2016.

The award-winning Jaguar F-PACE had another strong month, increasing to 1,356 sales, an increase of 68 percent from 809 in September 2016. In September, the Jaguar F-PACE was again the top selling vehicle for Jaguar Land Rover in the U.S. as it was in August.

In August Jaguar unveiled its 5-seat compact SUV, the Jaguar E-PACE, which packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle. The newest member of the Jaguar family of SUVs, the E-PACE follows the brand’s 1st all-electric SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE Concept5, and the World Car of the Year-winning F-PACE performance SUV. Featuring 2 4-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engine options producing 246HP and 296HP, each mated to a ZF® 9-speed automatic transmission, the E-PACE goes onsale from December of 2018 and will be priced from $38,6001.

Jaguar launched 2 new entry luxury vehicles in 2016: the 2017 Jaguar XE compact luxury sedan, starting at $34,9001, and the 2017 Jaguar F-PACE compact luxury SUV, starting at $40,9901. Competitively priced within their respective segments, these 2 new models appeal to an all-new segment of buyers for the brand. The XE is available with two gasoline engines, a 240-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 340-hp supercharged V6. The F-PACE is available with the same 340-hp supercharged V6, as well as a 380-hp supercharged V6 in the ‘S’ model. Both vehicles are available with a 180-hp turbocharged diesel engine, which returns 42mpg highway2 on Jaguar XE models and 33mpg highway2 on F-PACE models.

For 2017, the Jaguar F-TYPE offers buyers with an all-new derivative in the F-TYPE SVR. Arrow Hybrid Cars

September 2017 Dashboardby Jeff Cobb October 4, 2017
Overall sales for September were exceptionally strong, as fleet sales and replacement demand from Harvey and to a lesser extent, Irma, led to the highest monthly rate (adjusted for seasonality) since July 2005 (when the auto industry provided incentives so that everyone could buy vehicles at employee prices). While sales for the year have declined from year-ago, the decline is now 1.9% rather than 2.8 percent as of the end of August. All categories (hybrid, plug in, battery electric, and diesel) were up from August and last September, and with the exception of diesels, all categories were up year-to-date.

As noted above, sales for full electric vehicles were up from August and as compared to last September. In fact, monthly sales of these vehicles were the highest ever, beating out the previous high of December 2016. The primary reason is Tesla which had high sales of both the Model S and X, although the Chevy Bolt also had its best ever monthly result (which sold over 2,600 vs. the 2,000 of prior months). As noted here previously, the Model S and X generally spike at the end of each quarter and this was certainly true in September. The model offering of the Model S continues to change and incentives were available in order to meet quarterly goals. Sales of the Model 3 were very modest, since only 260 have been produced since launch. The new Leaf was shown, and will be available early next year. Therefore, sales will be modest and in fact may not increase dramatically until late next year when the longer range model (albeit at a higher price) is available.
Plug in hybrids had a good month with the category leaders, the Prius Prime and the Volt, selling at a strong level. This category is remarkably consistent with the 2 Ford Energi products following (although sales were mildly lower than the average of previous months). Sales of the Pacifica (estimated) were consistent, although we expect a modest drop in coming months since the plant is down for changeover all of October. This segment is broken out relatively evenly among Toyota, GM, Ford, BMW, and everybody else. While the Bolt has grown as it has been more widely available across the country, the Volt is down from last year and unlikely to increase as more products are coming from GM in the next couple years. The Volt will continue until approximately 2021 or 2022 when it is redone, probably as a crossover.

The hybrid category had a good month, with the Ford Fusion Hybrid finding itself (uncharacteristically) at the top of the category. The underlying Fusion is relatively new, as is the hybrid version. Year-to-date, the Fusion hybrid has sold twice as many copies as last year. The RAV4 also snuck ahead of the Prius Liftback for the month, although the Prius Liftback remains the best-selling hybrid for the year. The RAV4 continues to grow while the Prius Liftback is in decline. The newly-released Sierra hybrid had its second strong month, but this is a specialty vehicle (a mild hybrid only available on two wheel drive models). We believe the same technology is offered on the Silverado, but sales data are unavailable. The Kia Niro, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry all had good months, with the latter reflecting the 1st month of the new model. As a result, Camry sales in general and the hybrid in particular should be strong the rest of the year. The Malibu hybrid also had a good month, again because the product is relatively new. As was true last month, Toyota’s share of the category was just barely over 50 percent given the success of a number of products not sold by Toyota (or Lexus). We would expect that Toyota’s share will fall under 50 percent soon.

The diesel segment showed improvement as the Transit sold well (and led the category) and the recently approved diesel engine started to reappear in the Ram Pickup (although share is still building and will be for several months). A new vehicle has been added, namely the GMC Terrain. The Chevy Equinox will also appear soon.
