A brand needs somethin extra special for people to give up a well known brand. I don’t think the Genesis has it.

Decided on a 2017 LS460L vs waiting for the new LS500, signed the paperwork tonight, got a great deal. Still waiting for the car to be delivered, its coming up here from down south but should be here in the next day or so.

Reasons for not waiting for the LS500:

1. Clearly more sport focused and more dynamic driving experience which is great, but not what I want.
2. Loss of the V8
3. I don't love the styling
4. Smaller interior dimensions despite larger exterior footprint

The car I selected is a RWD car with the air suspension, so it should fulfill my desire to have the last "traditional" Lexus LS. Leased it for business, but the residual is horrible so it would be a great deal for me to buy out and keep should I choose to do that.

I'll definitely go drive an LS500 when they're available and report my thoughts, but I feel quite confident in my choice.

Well, congratulations. While I had several good reasons to wait for a 2018, with the LS, I think you made the right decision by getting a tried-and-true end-of-year 2017.....though probably an equally good choice would have been the G90. I, too, agree that a car of this caliber should have a V8....especially since its German and Korean competitors do. With the long-wheelbase 460L, you'll also have a little more room in the back seat for your clients, even if, as you say, you don't drive as many of them around as you used to.

I plan to (statically, of course) check out the LS500 at the D.C. auto show in a few weeks, but, based on what I've seen in pictures so far, I doubt I'll change my mind....the 460 is probably a better buy.

Give us a report on it when you get it.....but you probably won't have to do three different threads on it, like I did with mine LOL.

Thanks guys! I will definately post thoughts and pics once I get it!

Really thought about the G90 but the snob in me couldn’t do it.

Which Silver did you get? The LS brochure shows two different ones....Atomic Silver and Liquid Platinum. I'm a big fan of the Atomic Silver....Lexus did that shade very well, but the Platinum is not bad-looking either.

It’s the liquid platinum. The atomic is a more pewter, almost bronzish color which is also very nice. I like that color on the newer more angular cars but for some reason it doesn’t do much for me on the LS. There was one that color at Chantilly that’s AWD but it obviously doesn’t have all the equipment this one does.

Congrats, sounds amazing. Plus you got the long wheelbase which is rather rare.

Your list of reasons why you forewent the '18, I couldn't have said it any better.

The jury is still out for me whether I truly like the new one or not. I will say a last year 4th generation LS460 is a very, very smart purchase. I can't help but think that more and more as I try to get used to the new one. I can never forgive no V8 available on the new one.

Look forward to pics!

Cant beat the current LS460 with the V8 if you got a great deal.
