Default 2018 MB S Class refresh...now base TT V6...

As some of you may know, the base S Class is now the TT V6 S450, with the S560 and its new 4L TTV8 slotting above it. The S450 starts about $7,000 cheaper than the S550 did last year, and the S560 starts about $4,000 more than last year, and it now only comes in AWD and base is a little better optioned as the S450 takes over lower end duty.

Output of the 450 is 362 HP and 369 lb/ft of torque, similar numbers to my AWD LS460.

Moderately optioned an S550 4 Matic came in for me around $115k, the same S450 4 Matic is about $105k, and being further restrained should be deliverable MSRP under $100k. Lexus needs to take notice of this when pricing the LS500. From what I have read on MBWorld lease rates are extra aggressive on the S450 too, wit MF's below .001 and good residuals, if one can get a 10% discount (should come fairly soon) you're talking ~ $1,200 a month to drive that car which aint bad at all. MF's are comparably terrible on the S560 and were never great on the S550.

At first I didn't care for the refresh, but its grown on me:

No more crying clown steering wheel:

Side by side with the pre-refresh car:

Steve, if you don't mind, I am posting the S class coupe & convertible 2019 model year refresh here as well ......

personally, as impressive as the sedan might be, I will only consider possibly the coupe or convertible versions, I am never a fan of the geriatric feel of the S sedan's interior. For a MB sedan, I prefer a luxuriously appointed E class.

the car just came out and the lease deals are already that good?! maybe it's on the remaining pre-facelift?

either way s class lease are always pretty good. i priced it when we were shopping the GL550, 1200 is a very reasonable price and in a lot of cases people did better. some scored even better deal when they opted for the s550 hybrid.

I sat in a black/black GLS63 a couple days ago for the first time, the car is huge and imposing, more so than I thought. very impressive inside and out.

Yeah, that good already. Those were figures for sure for the refresh, because they had MFs for the 450 and 560.

Remember you you live in CA, lease Mecca of the world lol. I could never get an S550 below $1,350 or so without a bunch down here. I can get a 740 with an MSRP of about $93-94k for about $1,150.

i looked at the E, I much prefer the S inside. I'm a geezer at heart lol. I can't go back to something as small as the E either, it's also so pedestrian looking.

The facelift is a nice improvement. They got rid of the smiley face, and replaced it with a frown face, but still looks better. Still not a fan of the blocky, old-fashioned 1970's Buick dashboard.
Facelift aside, Mercedes biggest fault is making all three of their sedans look nearly identical. I still have to check the decklid digits to see if it's a C, E, or S. This is probably not a problem for any Mercedes enthusiast. But it is a big problem for fans of other brands trying to form a bond with Merc. I guess those who have C's can feel elated their ride could be mistaken for a car costing three times more. And on the flip side, those with a $100k S can feel like their car looks like a $40k C-Class. Interesting times we live in.

Went to MB dealership last week, talked to them about leasing GLS450 (wife), S560 for myself, looks like 1100 for GLS and 1300 for S560 is very doable.
The New S won't be in for another two months, so I will need to wait till then to discuss about trading both of my cars in for these.

I still can't get used to the new headlight design and the lower bit of the bumper of the non sport. However, still my favorite large sedan. Its a shame that if you want the V8, it starts at above 6 figures now. What a move by mercedes. Reduce price by a considerable amount, and yet raise price considerably at the same time.

Reminds me of when Lexus dumped the standard V6 in the GS and made the 2.0T standard. Yet there they didn't lower the price. At least MBZ did for the lesser engine.

Mercedes has had sedans that are this way on and off for many decades.

I don't see consumers thinking that way... someone buying a c class doesn't want something looking cheap and wants something that's 'obviously' a mercedes. an s class buyer has made it and usually doesn't give a crap what others think about any resemblance to anything else.
