Default Future of Lexus discussion 2017

This thread has been created so we can post news, rumors, and discuss the future of Lexus. We had a successful 2013-2015 thread, so I'm sure this one will be successful too. As a reminder let's be respectful and take everything said and read with a grain of salt as this is not official press.

With that said, I'd like highlight some things to come.

**we'll try to keep this continually updated**

___

7/27/2017
- A contract between Lexus and Apple has been signed. Apple Car Play about 16 months away, 2019 7ES likely the debut candidate
- No Android Auto (at least for 24 months)
- 2019 7ES could be first Lexus to debut MiFi
- Lexus 'UX' to be offered in Turbo and Hybrid powertrains
- A model below the NX and UX is slated to be a true CT replacement - very little info

7/31/2017
- All 2018 Lexus will have 10 Years of Lexus Enform complimentary now from the standard 1 year.

Well, probably the most significant upcoming Lexus news is that the CT is going to be dropped in the American market.

I wonder if they can set themselves apart like they did in 1989 (meaning truly stun the world with what they're offering--BMW accused them of selling the LS400 below cost)

I wonder if these will also be available on Toyota models (2019 Camry, new 2019 Avalon)?

Good question. That'd be cool, if not they'll just debut on marque Lexus brand.

Sorry I missed a comma. 'A model below the NX and UX, is slated to be a true CT replacement.'

Hoovey is this CarPlay / Android Auto rumor true or a rumor about it being available in Lexus and Toyota products in the near future? This is the only reason why we went with an Audi instead of a Toyota / Lexus. Hope it's true! Thank you.

It's true. Like I mentioned, a contract was signed between the two companies. Look for it to start being applied to Lexus vehicles about 16 months from now.

Thank you so much for sharing this news Hoovey! This is the only reason why myself, and several of our friends avoided Toyota / Lexus products for the last few years. A silly move for them to resist so long, but thrilled moving forward they are embracing this technology.

Thank you!

Well if that jet is any indication, it's a questionable future.

Looking forward to the next gen lexus products.

Especially new powertrains. I know we've talked in the past if a TTV8, and I really hope they come out with a current gen ISF, although I've given up on that one lol.

Why give up so soon?!? It's only been 2.5 years since they stopped selling the ISF new, lol.

Looking into the future, I have low hopes that they will do away from their ugly design of that front grille of their cars. Their ugly grilles are probably here to stay, which really sucks. They will tarnish their own brand. Instead, they could have offered a non-overly exaggerated large Alien vs. Predator grilles (I'm talking about the conservative design without the ugly grilles) for some of their cars to satisfy both buyers. They could have possibly done it on the Lexus CT. No wonder their CT line died. The CT is the first Lexus model that introduced the ugly grilles, then came death. I wonder what will happen to the rest of their cars following that pattern  Really want to buy their cars, but that grille is throwing me off.

Also, I wonder what happened to their hoverboard project?

The 2nd gen IS came out as a MY2006. The ISF came out at the Mid cycle refresh 2 years later (MY2008).

The 3rd gen IS game out as a MY2014... We should have had an ISF last year (MY2016). We are almost at MY2018 already! ... It would be odd to have it released at the 2nd refresh, as it would not leave enough years in the life cycle before the next generation come out

The biggest spot to tap into would be the entry level sedan. Audi has great success selling their A3. There's no reason Lexus can't do the same.
While I am not a fan of the gaping mouth grille, I have accepted it. It is here to stay. Most other brands are moving to a similar thing, so it seems to be something not worth fighting. Only BMW and Mercedes are hanging on to a more traditional front end.
I'd love to see Lexus bring back an entry level V6 for the IS. The turbo four does not sound or feel luxurious to me and that is a knock on a model they are trying to move the most. With today's tech, I am surprised a smooth inline or standard 3.0 V6 cannot be built for economy and lightness.

.........and look at the success those two brands are having, without Mammoth-Cave grilles LOL.

Agreed on the small V6s. Although it didn't have a great deal of power (only marginally more than equal-displacement N/A in-line fours, the Lexus 2.5L V6, was, IMO, an ideal small engine for smoothness and refinement.
