Yes, I like a nice looking engine bay. But above all else, I really love a clean engine bay. Speaking of which, I recently bought some 303 aerospace. Time to get to work

I can't stand that's the direction Lexus is heading. I hate the black plastic in my GS350 too. The under-body has even more black plastic. It just gets in the way anytime you have to service something, and one by one you lose those clips...
Thought the purpose of the underbody being closed was aerodynamics? It was one of Lexus' 4 goals when they introduced the cars in 1990. Who knows if the 3rd gen LS430 would remain .26 cd without it. But it is cheap, to change the oil, people bend the plastic forward. Too bad they didn't copy BMW and create a trap door, seems to make a heck of a lot more sense then simply stressing out the plastic and bending it forward, or take off what 26 fasteners like you mention...(they do eventually strip, on the LS they are almost a glow in the dark plastic that receives the screws)

one reason for engine covers is so they dont have to spend as much R&D running wires and hoses in a way to make it more aesthetically pleasing

True.....when I had that 2016 BMW 328i loaner for 4 1/2 mos., I decided to poke around under the hood, to see how it compared to the E9x.....when I lifted up the plastic on the driver's side, where the brake/clutch reservoir (in this case it was an auto) and ABS/DSC pump are hidden, it was like a cheap-o-rama festival. I was thinking this car is low 50's? The plastic does hide the components well, so all you can judge when you lift the hood is the plastic.
