Default Crazy Cost of Repair

Posted this in the 4RX, but I feel this warrants its own thread and visibility here as I'd like to here from you car nuts like myself!

For those who haven't found my thread where I revealed the repair cost, any guesses on the repair cost of DarthRX's cosmetic damage that extends to the bumper, fender, and hood? No structural damage nor airbags deployed and neither my wife nor the other driver got hurt

I saw your other thread, so I won't spill the beans on the amount.......but I just want to say that I'm glad you and your wife were not hurt. Both the RX and RAV-4 can be replaced.....you two can't.

The headlight alone is probably well over 2k. Hood, bumper, misc items, paint - you're easily looking at 5-7k?

I had a small dent in the rear quarter panel on my 3RX, took it to Lexus collision for an estimate and they wanted $1200! So from that experience I'd say your looking at $8-10000. Does the hood need replacing? Add another $3000. I'm just guessing but if your quoting Lexus collision repair it's going to be very high. They'll tell you a whole new front end is needed.

I haven't seen your other posts

The carfax on this will be listed as "structural damage" because they will need to adjust the rebar to fit the new bumper.

CorradoMR2, sorry to see the damage, specially for such a new car.

When you folks mention a Lexus Collision Center, this is nothing more than a dealership's own, private bodyshop or even a related place down the street, right? Lexus, the company, does not get involved with autobody repair shops.

Thanks mm. Just an object in the end, but we had a stellar no-at-fault- record and the bummer will be the premium increase next time around. Question will be how much.

Make that $4K just for the headlight! My guess was 9-11K tops. Triple that

LOL, yes, add 4K on top of your close "Canadian" guesstimate!

When we got hit on the 3RX rear side quarter panel, the repair was quite extensive which involved the panel, fuel door, ML sub replacement, bumper replacement and corner lights, yet the repair was a respectable $7K all in. Was not expecting 4x this cost on the 4RX but all the trim pieces/parts of the 4RX F Sport bumper alone add up to a few thousand dollars. Just look at all the parts involved and putting aside clips and wires most of the major parts are between $300-600 each! Ouch.

Thanks. The upsetting part is our clean at-fault insurance record is now marred and we'll surely pay back into the this $29K bill over the next few years.
Interestingly, the appraiser was not certain we needed a new rebar (Part 18 in the above diagram) since it was only lightly scuffed, but I remember him saying he might just get it replaced. So i guess because of this, we may see "structural damage" which is a bummer.

From my experience, in my area, it's a 3rd party vendor they have a contract with. My insurance deals with CarStar and they did a nice job with our 3RX so no concerns with their quality.

Seven years ago, my IS350 had similar damages, and it was already 15 K from a non Lexus shop, crazy!

Sorry to see this and glad you're ok. If this were a BMW, it would be a very good time to replace the washer pump's strainer (or clean it at minimum), or just replace the entire pump (seriously because it's over $1k otherwise, an OE pump is $42 online)....

edit although that tank looks like coolant as it's pink, still with the long neck it's illogical to be coolant. In the BMW's case, a $3.99 "grommet" aka strainer leads to the repair, and the pump may as well be done at the same time since it's $42...

hopefully if it's that much, it will be totaled. That's a win for insurance and the shop getting this job, but knowing what I know about that industry, it's such a gold mine to be spec'ing out parts and not replacing them, using aftermarket, just better if the OP can get cashed out, imho...good luck...

Thats just blatant overcharging for parts by Lexus, especially that RX is not by any means an exclusive model. I wonder what similar repair for X3/GLK would cost.
