Me waiting allows the bugs to be worked out and the aftermarket to find the limits. I'm sure Toyota took measures to make sure it works right but I'm not the average consumer.
I'm still not sold on the reliability one bit, let alone reliability on ones for people who are going to inevitably mod them out. There is no way a BMW engine can handle what the 2JZ could. They can't even design an M engine that doesn't fail (with no mods) after 50k.

I guess time will tell....

As the owner of a heavily modified MKIV Supra you may find my response odd but the power mine makes (83X rwhp) is overkill for the streets. I'm here at this level because it was easy to get here ha ha, the ease of getting power from the 2jz is crazy. The sweet spot for my car is mid 5's at the wheel, honestly don't need more than that, I make that on 93 Octane around 22psi switching to E85 and turning boost up 11psi adds almost 300rwhp. If the B58 can handle 550rwhp over time I would say it's good others will disagree as we have become obsessed with high HP numbers. Strangers ask me if I make 1000HP and seem disappointed when I say no lol. I have friends that make north of 1100rwhp in their Supras and they all say the most fun was when it was at a lower power level around 5 to 600. At that level their low boost settings are still in 700 range on 93 Octane which isn't ideal for high compression setups with big injectors. I know of a local MKIV shop that has purchased a MKV that plan to find the limits of the B58 and the trans. Trans is rated to upper 7XX TQ on paper.

I agree time will tell how the B58 does, Many fans are spoiled by the 2jz and if it doesn't make 1000 on stock block it will be deemed a failure but most that say that have never driven much less owned a high HP car. I know a few people that made 1000rwhp on the dyno with a stock block for hero pulls but they never drive around on street at that power level. When one of them took his motor apart to build it the rods had started to bend. The 2jz is an anomaly to me and it's hard to out do that even for Toyota.

Lol I don't find it odd, I find it insane in a good way ha ha. You mean 830HP is too much for the boulevard?? Lol yours sounds like one of those that will go from like 85 to 160 in 3 seconds lol. I've seen youtube videos of similar ones and I don't believe my eyes, it's nuts how fast you can make them.

Ha ha yea it's a rush I've easily done triple digits just merging just because. There's no footage of my adventures for a reason lol. Once rolling the mid to top end power is insane, I'm usually shocked when I check the logs on the gauge when I get home that logged top speed etc...I drove a buddy's 1200HP Supra with big 15" tires, quad clutch, etc.. and the power is so raw on the highway especially 3rd gear he pulls on liter bikes and has beaten a few Busa's. That was way too much power for me but I could see why it's addictive plus I'm not a fan of 15" drag radials on street cars. I'm good with my 18" R888's and traction control.

Anyway back to the MKV I find the stock torque curve impressive it comes on early. Would be interesting to see one line up with a RC-F

Truck crash destroys Toyota Supra shipment

When Toyota announced that they were reviving the Supra, automotive enthusiasts all around the world jumped for joy, but after Toyota revealed that it was going to be a joint project with BMW, the excitement died down.

The hype around the new car seemed to pick up a bit when American automotive journalists got their hands on the first batch of Supras and showed how they perform, and how powerful they really were....

BTW I think the Supra would smoke the RCF as it is much lighter.

The RC-F track edition has better acceleration numbers. It's also AMCI test certified. On a track it has a higher top speed as well. Supra is lighter.

Yeah I noticed that, the Track Edition is faster and lighter but still I'm not sold. The motor may be BMW garbage but it's very underrated. One thing I'll give it is the new Supra is fast.

I'd much rather drive the Lexus, though, if sports cars were my thing.

NA V8 over (BMW)TTI6

Just another reason car makers should sell direct, even if just at msrp, that would be a ‘bargain’ compared to this.

I find the ultra aggressive automatic shifter "shifts" in this one funny.

I don’t think selling direct will make a difference. Toyota would absolutely increase the price if they could. This new Supra is selling at MSRP because Toyota has purposely kept supply low and people want the car. We were told a 4 cylinder is coming, why is not at launch? Those selling above MSRP, shame on them. Don’t go there. Those who pay more than MSRP are idiots just as well.

Any manufacturer would if they thought someone would pay what they wanted for any car

Not uncommon for a sports car

Because it is being pushed internationally like in Japan. North America wants the I6 first

Dealer mark-ups are common on special cars. Just look at the Civic Type-R released 2 years ago in US, and dealers still mark-up today

You are full of contradiction. You are now calling people who buy Supra's idiots and yet you said earlier that passion and enthusiasm will win out regardless of price.
