My New Ride ('15 F150)
Haven't been around much lately, but I wanted to check in and share my newest ride.
Just placed my deposit on this 2015 F-150 XLT. It's a 4x4 with the 5.0 and 35,000 miles. It's about 400 miles away, so I've got a heck of a drive ahead of me this weekend to get it. I've been shopping for a few months, and it's getting harder to find good a 5.0 and 4x4 combo. Everybody's getting the Ecoboost now. Finding it in Ruby Red was just icing on the cake.
I'll be sad to let my Fusion go, it's been a great car for the last 3.5 years. It'll stay in the family however.

What made you choose the F-150 over full-size trucks? Prior good experience with Ford? The aluminum body-construction?
Although the Silverado has (IMO) better fit/finish, and the Dodge Ram better road-manners and a more comfortable ride, I agree that, for reliability, I'd choose the Ford.

huh? the f-150 is a full size truck.
i have no idea what you base this on. the f-150 is impeccably made and the switch to aluminum was a bold and great improvement for fuel economy.

A typo. I meant other full size trucks.
I didn't criticize the switch to aluminum....though it does, in some cases, require special body shops. I thought some things about the Silverado, though, showed equal or better fit/finish. You're free to disagree.

Not a fan of the 07+ Tundra. I think the 01-06 trucks looked nicer, although they were certainly less capable. You don't gain much power with the 5.7 over Ford's 5.0 and the 4.30 gears really kill the MPGs. It's kind of interesting that Nissan and Tundra generally have worst in class fuel economy in the full size truck market.
I want to go explore the desert more. Additionally, I spend a lot of time back in my native Utah. If you know anything about Utah, there's tons of stuff to do if you have a 4x4.
And just like with concealed weapons, my philosophy is that it's better to have and never need than to need and not have.
My search started out looking at 2011-2014(the last gen) of F-150's. I specifically avoided 09-10 because of the 5.4. I didn't want the cam phaser or spark plug issues, nor the lackluster MPG. Plus, the 5.0 sounds and feels amazing. From the moment I test drove one, I was in love. They asked me if I wanted to test drive an ecoboost and I told them not to bother. I'm sure it's a fine engine, but it's just not for me.

Very nice! Good buddy of mine has almost the same truck and he loves it, drives it more than his Acura which wasn't his plan. If he knew he was going to like it so much he would have gotten one with more options. My cardiologist also got one of these to tow his daughters horse to riding events but it's the same story, he likes it so much he drives it all the time. This is a guy that can buy any vehicle on the earth lol.
These full size trucks are really nice, and the F150 would be my choice.
