Default Who is "Sewell" in the Lexus world?

I keep seeing this "Sewell" will take care of it, or "Sewell" will have it, yet they're website's shut down... All that comes up is a single Lexus dealer in Tx; but 98% of the threads I see this "sewell" in have nothing to do with the state of Texas, so I'm just assuming people aren't trying to direct someone in say Michigan to a dealership in Texas. Is there a person or Lexus specific speed shop named Sewell as well?

It is a Texas dealer who used to have a huge Lexus parts ordering system online.

Sewell has dealerships throughout Texas, and they sell 10 brands. They are known for their service. I've owned Sewell Lexuses and Sewell Infinitis and their service is top-notch as advertised. I believe they are also one of the largest Lexus dealerships in the country. Their website is not shut down.

It wasn't sewell.com that shut down, but sewellparts.com

Ah I see. So they were the only Lexus dealership to sell parts online?

Yeah Lexus corporate put an end to Sewell's online parts business. Bunch of BS, as I think other dealers were whining about Sewell undercutting them on price. I know on certain Lexus parts, you can order them from a Toyota dealer, because they're the same on the equivalent Toyota(example, control arms on the 1990's Lexus SC are the exact same part as for a Toyota Supra and a couple hundred dollars cheaper through the Toyota dealer)

I bought G spider wheels with snow tires from them for my IS

they didn't record one of the tpms numbers before shipping to me

my local dealer had to break down all 4 wheels to get the numbers and Sewell paid for all of that, no hassles at all

I bought those same G-Spyder wheels for my '06 SC430. I'm lucky that I'm in Dallas, so Sewell installed them for me. No issues.

Man you're crazy running staggered 18" wheels for your snow setup lol . . . . Gotta stay styling I guess.

Seriously though I have those wheels on my SC300, love them. I did have one get damaged in a pot hole(tire blew out), had to take it back to the wheel refinishing guy twice before he even got close to matching the finish(its still off a little bit)

Okay, my best "Sewell story" is that when I owned my '13 GS F-Sport I developed some dents in the aluminum trim. Sewell service said they had never seen those types of dents and agreed to replace my aluminum trim at no charge. This was above the glovebox and around the shifter. They did it at no charge. That is how service-oriented they are. I seriously miss them when getting my Audi serviced. ;-)

A lot of people run a smaller diameter and narrower wheel for winter tires. The smaller diameter gives you more sidewall, the narrower width makes the contact patch smaller, thus more weight on the contact patch, thus the car can sink down further into the snow and maybe find grip on the pavement below. Think of a wide, low profile performance tire as a snow shoe, ie it stays on top of the snow, while a narrower tire with more sidewall digs in.

As I found out in my experience, after a really brutal ice/snow storm here in Nashville in 2015(like a once every 5-7 year event), the freeze/thaw cycle just brutalized our roads and led to that blowout/damaged wheel. I can't imagine how bad roads up north can get.
