Not always true, at least the case with Lexus. On the exterior, the LC is 95% the LF-LC while the NX is 85% the LF-NX yet it's only a $36K+ vehicle. The UX will start only 3-4K less at +-$32K IMO. I expected more sculpting from Lexus.
Again, I'll reserve final comments once we see it in Geneva next month! Hoping it will still look good from other angles, but hoping not like this slab-sided-Pontiac-Aztec-looking rendering

TMC has made it possible to do a sculpted exteriors on affordable vehicles, even really cheap cars, let alone a Lexus that will still be $30k.
I expect it to look wild, lets hope it ends up being good, like C-HR just with more luxury and bigger engine, as it should be (and we know it will have a bigger engine)

I remember commenting on a thread in this forum and on FB about full width taillights(FWT) and why they should be incorporated more into cars. Some didn't take well with this idea because they think it looks tacky. My stance was that SAFETY is the main concern and aesthetics came as an afterthought. Though, the two is well intermixed. I also said that Asian cars are the worse when it comes to taillight safety. I believe the only Asian car with FWL is the NSX, a 200k car. You see, FWL is more than just lights, its about a mindset. FWL signifies prosperity and affluency. They cost more to manufacture. Oddly, this mindset has long been with the American people. Though Toyota is the most profitable company, it has taken them THIS LONG to incorporate FWT, something Americans have been doing for the past 40-50 years. You guys ever see the F-150 with an aftermarket LED bar on the trunk? Though that **** is illegal, its the thought that counts, just like fake *****.
Im studying to be a light engineer/industrial designer. Honestly I don't think I will ever want to work with Lexus. Though they did make the GOAT, the '06 GS. It will be one of my goals to make an American iteration of the 06 GS.

Images of the car's exterior and interior have been released ahead of its public debut at the Geneva motor show, showing that it will also be one of the brand's most aggressive-looking models. Inside, there's a new widescreen infotainment system that appears related to the one used in the Lexus LS.
The small SUV, which brings the fight to the Jaguar E-Pace and Mercedes-Benz GLA, stems from the UX concept, which was revealed at the Paris motor show in 2016.
The UX will be powered by a mix of internal combustion engine and traditional hybrid powertrains, as proven by Lexus’s trademarking of UX200, UX250 and UX250h monikers following the concept’s reveal.
This suggests the car will share engines with lower-end NX SUV models and the ageing CT hatchback. It is thought that the UX will eventually replace the CT.
Features of the production car will be toned down from those of the concept; the large, intricate wheels and door cameras in place of mirrors are the 1st to go.
Rivals range in length from 4400mm to 4450mm, so it’s likely that the UX will sit somewhere in the middle.
Prices have yet to be confirmed, but its closest competitors are priced £29,000-£35,000. The NX occupies the lower end of the segment’s price range, so it’s likely that the UX will do the same, with a price tag of less than £30,000 expected.

If that's accurate it shows the final car is almost nothing like the whacky concept.

Agreed. Lexus has gone with the DRLs above the headlight module here as they did in the refreshed CT. I wonder how they'll designate which models will get this and which will have the standard detached DRLs below.
