Price with the base turbo 4 may be in the low $30,000 range, but I expect the loaaded V-6 version to be more like $45,000. Yes, this is a South Korean competitor to the 3 series and C class. Much sharper styling than the conservative BMW (or Audi A4) with a great looking interior. My guess is that this is also the basis for the new Genesis Sport Coupe.

Yes, that would make sense...basing the platform on the RWD/AWD G80. They styling, though, is strongly Kia....especially from the Optima.

You may be right about the upcoming Genesis Sport Coupe (we'll see)...but most coupes, today, are not done on platforms quite that large.

Genesis Coupe will be off the Genesis G70 platform. But yes, this is based on the Genesis G80 platform which unfortunately likely means this car will be a bit of a piggie. Those cost savings have to come from somewhere.

Yup.

very nice design, but I can't get over the Killed In Action name.

This shouldn't belong in the kia stable.

I wonder if Toyota and nissan will ever bring back mainstream RWD

Still way too much knock off styling for my taste.
Outside - Audi, Jaguar, BMW
Inside - MB especially the round vents!

Engine specs are nothing special, hopefully the driving dynamics can backbup the aggressive design.

100% spot on with the too much knock off comment. The interior reminds me MB. I don't think this vehicle will do very well.

+1 Knockoff all around inside and out.

With that being said, I'd take this over most of the new Japanese designs that have gotten way too ridiculous-looking for my taste.

I really like what Kia is doing these days, and this is a very nice looking car, but I'm assuming they will drop "Stinger" or I won't be caught dead in one.

pman6 01-08-17 09:03 PM

knock off?

you can't really make a good looking car these days without knocking something off. There's no such thing as unique design anymore.

remember how jag knocked off the GS, sorta?

Mercedes wasn't the first to use round ac vents

Kia really kept the wraps on this one. Lexus top secret like. Well played Kia

Man that looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As somebody commented earlier, very Italian looking, reminds me of an Alfa Romeo.

As for the price, a loaded Optima is about $35,000 now days and a loaded Cadenza is $44,000!! If they keep the 4 cylinder below 40k with all the options and V6 below 50k well equipped, I think they'll be very competitive. Now if this thing actually moves some units is another question, as Kias in this price bracket never have sold very well(the Cadenza and K900 are pretty lame in comparison though). Also people are crazy for crossovers, not sport sedans now days, and there are a lot of excellent, well established choices in this segment as well.

Dislike all the styling here. Nothing special with the Optima front. Rear end uses old-style taillights with awkward shapes. Rear diffuser is over-styled and boy-racer. Side profile looks like a hatchback, which is more boaty and less sporty. Overall, the exterior is boy-racer and gimmicky. Interior displays a very poor use of dash space. Precious center console area is hogged by the jumbo, dated, old-fashioned air vents. This is basically a large Kia Optima that's been Pontiac G8/GTO-ized.

Despite knock off styling from many many brands, I have to say they actually put it together pretty well. And no one pointed out the tails screams Maserati coupe? XD

Name does not match. "Stinger" is in line with muscle car names.

Yes, the body looks like an Optima, but the platform is totally different. The Optima is mid-sized FWD....this is RWD/AWD and closer to full-size.

because it IS a hatchback. Like the Audi A7

What mainstream needs are sub-$30k rwd sedans.
