The factories will not only produce Volts but other cars over many many years, so they basically cherry-picked a number from a snapshot in time when actually this is more like a movie, not a picture. The 3 billion should not be divided by the 6,000 Volts sold at the time of the research, but by the millions of different cars and products that will come out of the factories/plants over the years.

Coincidentally, 3 billion divided by 6,000 is 500k, not 250k, so they can't even get their math right.
Maybe their assumption is that $1.5 billion for the factory, and $1.5 billion in tooling, equipment and other things that are fully depreciated over the production cycle of the Volt.

No, it's just a flat out misrepresentation.

Debuts in Geneva/Europe, specs discussed, not sure if this is a slip or they are speculating.

http://www.inautonews.com/geneva-lex...ncept-revealed

Lexus has recently unveiled the Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The model was previously unveiled at the North American International Auto Show a few months ago, where it has won the EyesOn Design award from a jury of leading designers. The concept has also won the “best concept in show” title at Chicago, voted by thousands of visitors that came at the event.
“The LF-Lc was a dream car to design and a true collaborative effort at Calty. It is an honor to have that work recognized by our peers and to receive the award”, as the President of Calti Design, Kevin Hunter, said in Detroit.
The design of this beautiful 2+2 hybrid sport coupe concept was created by the design team at the Calty design studio in California and features a new grille, afterburner tail lamps, vertical fog lamps, a glass roof and quad exhaust. The interior features state-of-the-art amenities such as a remote touch-screen control board used for the audio system, two 12.3-inch LCD screens, pop-up touch screen keyboard for complex entries, navigation and climate control, touch screen controllers used for the windows, mirrors, personal entertainment and door panels and many other.

The LF-LC in its final production version will be powered by a hybridized 5.0 liter V8 engine, which will develop around 500 horsepower, helping the model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

Lexus LF-LC concept wins People's Prize at Chicago Auto Show

The Lexus LF-LC hybrid concept has just won the coveted People's Prize at the Chicago Auto Show, proving this is the hottest concept making the 2012 auto show rounds.

Toyota initially unveiled the Lexus LF-LC hybrid concept at the North American International Auto Show a few months ago. The concept was honored with the EyesOn Design award from a jury of leading designers. This is widely considered an extremely coveted automotive design award for any vehicle to receive.

Now the LF-LC concept has also won the “best concept in show” title at Chicago, as voted for by the thousands of visitors to the 10-day event. It was an amazing result, achieved with around 30 percent of the popular vote.

The hybrid 2+2 represents Lexus’s highly desirable vision of a future luxury sports coupe. The concept was created by the design team at the Calty design studio in California. It displays the new Lexus design language in its interpretation of the signature Lexus spindle grille and rear architecture. Across the bodywork, curves blend smoothly into dynamic angles, creating an engaging interplay of lines, shadows and corners. The profile the LF-LC creates is unmistakably that of a serious driver’s car, emphasizing direction and motion.

“This is just a concept at this point, but judging from the fantastic reception it received at the recent Detroit auto show, people want us to build it.” said Yoshi Inaba, President and Chief Operating Officer of Toyota Motor North America, before the show in a speech to the Chicago business community.

The Lexus LF-LC concept will make its first appearance outside of North America at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Europeans tend to be much more focused on design and it seems the LF-LC concept should be a hit over in Europe as well. It will be interesting to gauge what the reaction is to the LF-LC at the Geneva Motor Show.

With this new award though it makes us wonder, will Toyota actually decide turn the LF-LC into a real production car? When I went to the Washington Auto Show recently it was clear how much people enjoyed this concept. At least looking at it on the podium it was on. It was clearly one of the highlights of the show and among the concepts vehicles on display. I think the public has spoken Toyota, build the Lexus LF-LC please!

it's no misrepresentation that the volt sells like death and that gm has cost the taxpayer billions still not paid back, and now obama wants to raise the credit to 10k to sell 'the new edsel'.

anyway, back to the thread... come on lexus, stop the tease and build something close to the lf-lc which looks hawt.

Default Geneva Motor Show: Lexus LF-LC

Having made its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the beautiful Lexus LF-LC makes its Euro debut in Geneva; Toyota was too busy making new show cars for itself to bother doing anything for Lexus, it seems.

Nonetheless, the LF-LC is a lovely thing, and is a showcase of future Lexus styling - in the tradition of many a lovely concept car.

Its glass roof is essentially a single piece canopy for the car, adjoining the front and rear screens and making the cabin extremely airy.

The four-seat coupé has a dashboard whose main controls and displays are largely digital, which is perhaps a glimpse of where Lexus design is going; the architecture borrows heavily from the LFA.

Lexus is said to be considering putting a watered-down version into production, giving the company a nice BMW 6 Series rival.

The popularity of the dramatic Lexus LF-LC concept has significantly boosted its chances of making production, Autocar has learned.

Senior bosses at Lexus parent firm Toyota insisted at the LF-LC’s Detroit show unveiling in January that the hybrid 2+2 coupé was strictly a concept. But an emphatically positive reception — including winning the public’s ‘best in show’ award at Detroit — has led to management discussions over “how we can do it” in production.

Speaking to Autocar after the LF-LC’s successful European debut at the Geneva show earlier this month, Lexus product planning chief Karl Schlicht rated the LF-LC’s chances of making production as 50/50.

“A decision has not been taken,” he said. “But we’re now up to a 50 per cent chance from a zero per cent one. Every top Toyota Motor Company manager is aware of the great reception it has received and now we’re talking about how we can do it and fit it into the product plan.”

Schlicht, who becomes Toyota and Lexus Europe’s product planning chief from 1 April, said if the proposal for such a dramatic Lexus production car had been presented to Toyota management without the concept, they’d have dismissed it. Instead, the Calty Design Centre in California was “let loose” in creating a concept, its only brief being that it had to be a 2+2 coupé.

“The only parameter was size. We wanted the designers to create excitement,” he said. “We’d never get it built from a product planning point of view on paper, but people have seen the concept and fallen in love with it. Dealers have gone crazy for it as well.”

Just build it. This is not rocket science. People love sexy coupes or good looking coupes. The LFA has done wonders for Lexus, make it a LFB if you don't want to make it a SC. The vehicle has now won multiple design awards and the public loves it. BUILD IT. Dealers want it. BUILD IT.

I never understood this. Why waste the resource if you don't plan on building it? They have a concept, people love it, now build it.

Unless lexus wants to get left behind (in the coupe dept) from bmw, mb, and audi.

^I'm a little worried about that. If the LF-LC was originally birthed with an intended zero chance of production, they are a solid 3-5 years from having one roll into a dealership.

Default Building on Autocar's report

Autocar reports Lexus may be mulling a production version of the company's LF-LC Concept. After receiving a near universally positive reception following its unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show this year, Karl Schlicht, head of Lexus product planning, reportedly gave the vehicle a 50-50 shot at hitting dealers sometime in the future. Those aren't great odds, but it is a change of tone from when the vehicle first hit the stage. Back in January, Toyota made it very clear the LF-LC was strictly a concept. As you may recall, the vehicle is a 2+2 coupe with a hybrid drivetrain and a low-slung presence.

According to Schlicht, the vehicle would have never even been considered for production if it had merely been submitted as a design proposal. With a physical concept backed by chorus of positive reviews, the company's decision makers have evidently been prompted to give the LF-LC a second look.

Schlicht himself is set to become the head of product planning for Toyota and Lexus starting on April 1.
