Default Daytime running lights

Hey guys,

Does anyone here think the Lexus DRL should be one uniform strip just like the new LS? I prefer it over the individual led's. Wonder why they didn't adopt this across all the models. I think it looks a lot nicer.

I prefer the uniform strip too. I'm sure as it evolves they'll all be more uniform.

Hmm I hope so. If i recall correctlythe updated LS came out before the new IS, RC and RX and they all dont have the LED tube.

The IS & RC have much tighter LED lights though than the GS, ES & RX (all 2013 refreshes).

Is it me or do the tubes look dimmer than the single-LED array? I assume they're using one light source with a diffuser to get even lighting.

I don't think they look dimmer.

I'm guessing it depends on the car? I assume the more expensive the car, the more likely they'll use two light sources, one at each end. If it's a non-luxury model, perhaps they'll just use one bulb and use optics in an attempt to get even lighting across the length of the tube.

Most have agreed light tubes look cleaner and higher-tech than the rope-lighting. I am surprised the 3IS and GS did not get them. Even the Avalon has them in the rear, as well as most Audi and Chrysler models.

Designs tend to go in cycles. Remember in the 90s when large rectangular brake lights were the norm?

Once OLEDs become affordable and the LED honeymoon is over, I'm sure car designers will look to OLED to create the next big lighting signature on vehicles. That's probably 10-15 years from now though.
