Default q on bumper height / pedestrian regs...

with these regs in place, how do low sports cars get made and sold without violating them?

maybe the giant open air intake space on the bottom of this ferrari pushing the hood height up is 'enough' to get by?

seems to me that at speed that car would still destroy a pedestrian.

I think, if you don't sell a certain amount of autos a year, you are exempted from the rule.

Most likely that. Those are not commuter cars, nor are there many of them out there.

Higher hoods are meant to provide enough crush room over hard points underneath the hood, like an engine block or windshield wiper motor, so that if a pedestrian gets thrown onto the hood, they don't immediately hit the hard, uncrushable item.

The cars shown in this thread are mid-engined models with the engine behind the cabin. Without an engine under the front hood, there is no need for the extra high crush space.

Hopefully they don't crush the Tumi luggage in the front trunk

you have to have 2 inches or so between the engine and the hood, on those cars the engines are not in the front. I guess with the new regs instead of being killed youll be horribly disfigured.

I guess the sale of these vehicles is limited to those places that have outlawed speed bumps. Air suspension must be mandatory, not for lowering the car, but for raising it up to clear ordinary urban obstacles like driveway entrances, tar seams, etc. .

I think the answer is they're exempt because they sell fewer than a certain number of cars a year.

Most of them have lifting mechanisms for speedbumps and inclines.

I think NickTee, Corey140, Sulu, and SW15LS all have part of the answer............low volume, regulation-waivers, and mid-engine design.

as other people said, point is not low hood but space between hood and engine... but even front engined cars these days have popup hoods - for instance, Lexus IS has pop up hood in Europe to satisfy this legislation.

That's true................although in some areas, you have no choice but to deal with it.
