New Maxima is really nice... TTAC had a good review, it handles and goes well, except for steering which is crappy like in Infiniti but cant be all perfect. I wouldnt mind lower end model, seems well equipped.

And TIMES change. By that logic you better have a look at German cars as well because they weren't all that great either back in the day. If your "proof" is 30 years old you have no proof.

I hope that new cvt transmission is more reliable than the ones in the new altima. I have too many friends with Nissans that have way too many problems. Cvt issues in a 12 altima, getting locked out of a 15 rogue cause electronics are all screwy. No thank you.

Definitely the better looking of all the current Nissan's (other than the GT-R). And X2 on the CVT.

I actually kind of miss my 89' Maxima that I had in high school. Had body roll like a fat kid on roller blades but man, the times, the times in that car!

CVTs are awesome, except for the fake shifting that Nissan integrated. Being able to take advantage of peak torque and peak efficiency and stay at those desired engine RPM regardless of speed is awesome.

I agree. The ls600hl has a cvt! And it works well and reliably. Initially, even Motortrend highly praised the operation of Nissan/Renault's CVT when they first tested one when it debuted in the v6 altima calling it "impressive". http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._exterior.html ).
CVT's got the bad rep when Nissan/Renault's CVT's in their Murano's (and later, the Altima's) started failing. Interestingly, the "bad cvt transmissions" mantra that were hitting the Nissan/Renault brand actually didn't stem from the CVT's initially. It was the traditional automatics that were dropping like flies in the 2004+ Nissan/Renault maxima's at 60,000+ miles http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/nis...4/single-page/ . The CVT 's in the 07+ Maxima actually had way less problems than the half-baked automatics Renault/Nissan were throwing in the 2004-2006 Maxima. But by then, word had gotten out that CVT's in Nissan's were junk. And as a whole, they were - especially in the most recent Altima Sentra Pathfinder and jx35 (q-something). They are shuddering nightmares
.
Unfortunately the saga doesn't end there. Thanks to Renault, Nissan has other reliability problems besides their transmissions. Until recently, most seem to survive the warranty period okay, but they fall off the wagon soon after. It's hit or miss with Nissan. You never know where Renault/Carlos Ghson's cost cutting finger will point towards next, hurting reliability.
. QR ENGINES THAT SELF DESTRUCT
. RADIATORS THAT EAT TRANSMISSIONS
. TIMING TENSIONERS THAT FAIL
AND THERE'S MORE.......

If the big companies could work together to improve the CVT, that'd be awesome. Some improved iteration of the CVT would definitely be better than the companies coming out with transmissions with more and more gears.

Seems like they are just trying too hard. We get it. You're not making a Camry or Accord. But they should have turned the 'X-treme surface Excitement' filter down a couple notches on Autodesk Alias.

There's quite a bit to like about the new Maxima, but the styling is something that might not age too well. I guess if they get a quick sales boost on the Max it will be good for the brand.

The one in the RX450H is also pretty awesome.

Most of the early reviews that I've seen on the CVT in the new Maxima have generally been favorable..
