After recoiling in horror at the aesthetics, cost, and practicality of the new "spindle grill," I swore off drinking for a whole month to make sure I didn't just hallucinate the whole mess. After I ruled that out, I got on the phone to some old friends from my mis-spent youth in the financial services industry at TMC in Torrance in order to find out how this all went down.

Buzz in the company is that it turns out the lead designer on this cluster flock is big into kitsch sci-fi. It's from "Predator."
