To say you want a V8 is one thing, but to call the LS500 "underpowered" is silly. To feel that is isn't a considerable jump up from the LS460 also demonstrates a lack of understanding about what HP is and what it does for you. The LS500 will feel *dramatically* quicker and more powerful than the LS460 because of its more considerable jump in torque 367 in the LS460 to 442 in the LS500, and its availability much lower in the RPM range (4100 RPM in the LS460 to ~ 2,500 RPM in the LS500). It will blow the doors off an LS460. HP doesn't get you moving, torque does.

What I also find funny is that turbos are terrible, full of lag, horrible...unless they're attached to a V8 lol

Bottom line is, if performance is your #1 concern this isn't the right car for you, and never has been. IMHO my LS460 doesn't feel any faster than my V6 GS350 did.

To those in the "over designed, too complicated" camp.....

Its no surprise that some people will think this is too much. Its the same type of buyer that thought red interiors were weird just a few short years ago, same type of buyer doesn't understand the new spindle design language. That buyer is living in the past and is the one that Lexus has already gambled as potentially losing for buyers who like and want daring/emotional designs and are on average, younger.

So you can keep saying, "Lexus is losing me, Lexus is losing me". Yeah, Lexus has already decided that you're worth losing for other markets.

Classic case of Abe Simpson Syndrome.

Guys your access to car chat will be removed if you continue with the rude personal commentary (posts removed).

We welcome all opinions both positive and negative as long as you are constructive. If you are negative and insist on posting the same complaint over and over, you'll be asked to stop as you've said your piece and it's time to move to new topics.

This is not overstyled, it's a work of art, blows away the MBs.

Those details are stunning, can't wait to see it in person. Glad Lexus was willing to step out of their comfort zone and start building real personality into their cars.

We have sort of the same situation yet I feel the exact opposite as you. Our IS350 feels slow compared to my LS430--that is, until the 350 starts to wind itself out. Just puttering around town the V8 torque, no need to crest 2100RPM, etc. makes it feel like the faster car.

I can sort of see the appeal of turbos, once I floored our IS350 and it took a full two seconds or so to really start screaming. I thought to myself, "This car which can do 0-60 in 5 seconds flat needed a sec to get going?" As opposed to my V8 which feels strong everywhere in the rev range; maybe I'm spoiled by that. But I care more about torque than horsepower.

I'm sure the TTV6 will be fine, ample power, but I'm STILL disappointed they left out the V8, and probably always will be. I've come around and think this new LS is stunning (especially inside), yet leaving the trademark V8 out is disappointing. The LS has always been known for its smooth V8, and the engine is the heart of the car. Hopefully one is in the works, as C&D said.

3.5L V6 TT's are not perfect engines.
Like anything, they have their pros and cons.
We have to learn to take the gravy with the dirt.

Pros:
They will completely ambush your LS430 and IS350.
They also have superior fuel economy hence lower emissions to boot.

Cons:
Don't expect the 3.5 V6 TT's to idle or rev as smoothly as your LS430.
Like all turbos, at "small" throttle openings driving gently around town, the twin turbos will NOT be on song [ie the turbos won't be on spool/boost], so expect laggy response and lethargic torque, unlike your traditional atmospheric engines.
A 4.0L V8 TT will solve the former NVH issues, but it won't solve the latter because all turbos take time to spool [wind up], unless you want them to run on boost all the time?

Solution:
So can't wait till Lexus gets the new electric compressor that accelerates to 70,000 RPM in just 300 milliseconds - like those used in Formula 1 racing cars since 2014, and also to be used in the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz in-line sixes.
In F1, the turbos spin to 100,000 RPM's.

Lexus needs to really innovate and catch up.
President Akio is now head of TMC's new Electric Vehicle EV Division, but it's not all over yet for the internal combustion engine.

The new interior shots are amazing. Wow, that is next level kind of quality. Really looking forward to seeing these in person.

Anyone who has not seen the new LS in person, just wait until you do before commenting on anything. Pics do not do it justice. The car is breathtaking in person. I saw it at the Chicago Auto Show and it was my favorite car there.

I have no doubt it will look better in person, Lexus designs always do.

The current RX350 did just what I thought....we're going to lose a few older customers but gain a lot of new.
Same thing will happen with the LS500. This car will be tremendous!

Hope they bring an actual F instead of just F-Sport.

The biggest insult here is that you have to pay for performance package in order to gain any performance in F-Sport. Looks like they copied straight from VW's book.
