Brand New GMC Yukon Erupts Into Flames During Test Drive

The driver pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road before the car was engulfed in flames and black smoke

A brand new SUV erupted into flames during a test drive Sunday after the car stopped working, officials said.

The driver pulled the 2015 GMC Yukon over to the side of the 2500 block of East Wagner Avenue in Anaheim before getting out of the vehicle along with the passenger, according to a news release by the Anaheim Police Department.

After they got out of the car, smoke and flames began pouring from the frame. The tires blew, and the car became engulfed in flames.

Cellphone video from the scene showed smoke billowing from flames beneath the car as firefighters doused the blaze. No one was injured and the fire was put out in about 10 minutes, said Lt. Tim Schmidt of the Anaheim Police Department.

"We are very fortunate that they parked in a quiet street," said Schmidt. "There really wasn't anything else around for the car to endanger."

Schmidt said police are still unaware of the exact cause of the fire, but there was a fluid leak before the incident occurred that they are looking into.

Hardin Dealership, the business where the test drive originated, did not comment by time of publication.

Lol. Fluid leaks. And oh yeah, the underbody is wax dipped and will flake off and rust right after you drive it off the lot:

^^^ I've had superficial rust on a brand new '08 Mazda Tribute I owned, but never to that extent. That's alarming to say the least.

As for a test drive gone-wrong story, back in 1988, my dad went for a test drive in a brand new Fiero GT. It was to be a quick 10 minute test drive. My mom, myself and brother waited, and waited, and waited at the dealer and began to seriously worry (remember, no cell phones back then). Finally, almost 1 hour later, from a distance, we see my dad and salesman PUSHING the red Fiero . To this day, I never saw a salesman hide away from customers that fast after my dad and he "towed" the car to the front door.

Needless to say, we bought an '88 MR2 next day and what a blast that car was.

The GMT-900s have that wax stuff on the frames too. I was able to peel some off with my finger nail. Good luck getting that to last for years.

That's a new feature installed. It saves the shopper the the inconvenience of buying a Chevy so they can go buy a proper Ford Expedition.
