Default New Scoops Suggest Porsche Working on Boxster GT4 As Well

Click here to view more photos

Porsche surprised our spies this week with a Boxster prototype wearing all the goods we've seen on the various Cayman GT4 testers.

These include the more aggressively styled bodywork with a new front bumper featuring larger air intakes, a cooling duct just ahead of the bonnet, a mini-ducktail rear spoiler, bigger wheels and a beefier braking system on both axles.

If this is indeed a tester for a Boxster GT4, then it will have the same powertrain as the hardtop Cayman GT4, which is believed to get either a new turbocharged unit or, more likely, a larger displacement version of the Cayman GTS' flat-six with 3.6-liters delivering anywhere between 360hp to 400hp.

Power should be transferred to the rear wheels through Porsche's PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission - unless the Germans also give the GT4 models a manual gearbox option too.

If Porsche has given the Boxster GT4 the green light, then it will be introduced together with the Cayman next year.

Default Porsche Exclusive shows off Cayman S with Racing Yellow finish

Click here to view more photos

Fitted with SportDesign package

Porsche Exclusive is showcasing their latest project, a Cayman S featuring a Racing Yellow look.

At the beginning of September we saw a tailor made Cayman S Agate Grey prepared through Porsche's customization program and now the team was in charge of applying a Racing Yellow theme on the same model. The car seen here comes with the optional SportDesign package and has received black rear side air intake grilles, side mirror lower trims and lettering, along with satin platinum wheels, smoked taillights and a dual sporty exhaust system.

As for the interior, Porsche Exclusive carried over the exterior's Racing Yellow hue and applied it onto the instrument dials, vents, Sport Chrono stopwatch as well as other bits and pieces to spice up the cabin.

Porsche Exclusive only fiddles with a car's aesthetics so this Cayman S comes with the same flat-six 3.4-liter developing 325 HP (239 kW), enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 4.7 seconds when configured with the optional Sport Chrono package. Top speed stands at 176 mph (283 km/h) with the six-speed manual and at 174 mph (281 km/h) for the PDK-equipped version.

Boxster will not get a GT4 version.

Cayman GT4 is confirmed 3.8 l, hp/tq right in between Carrera and Carrera S, all GT4's come in manual only, no PDK available.

Default Porsche's Boxster GT4 Could Look Something Like This

As our recent spy photos proved, aside from a Cayman GT4, Porsche is also working on a GT4 version of the facelifted Boxster.

The blue prototype we caught unguarded earlier this month, had the same exact upgrades and updates as the closed-top Cayman GT4 testers, from the more aggressive aerodynamic components and vented hood lip, to the beefy wheels and brakes.

If you don't want to put your imagination to work, the team over at Topspeed have crafted a realistic rendering of the sports model based on the Boxster GT4 spy shots.

The question on what engine will power the GT4 models remains open, as there are conflicting reports, with some sources pointing to a new turbocharged flat-four or six, and others to a larger displacement version of the Cayman GTS' atmospheric flat-six with 3.6-liters delivering anywhere between 360hp to 400hp.

goes against what a Porsche insider told the PCA, said the GT4 is being developed for the GT4 race class which forbids non-manuals and open top cars

Default New Porsche Cayman GT4 Spied Camouflage Free

Not that Porsche was really trying to hide its Cayman GT4 testers, but the firm's new coupe has been caught without any camouflage while also wearing a production rear wing.

It’s a hotly anticipated model, akin to a junior 911 GT3, with a host of performance and aerodynamic improvements over the regular Cayman coupe.

With the exception of the alloy wheels, the rest of the car seems production ready featuring a different front bumper with bigger air inlets, a protruding splitter and LED daytime lights, a new cooling duct in front of the bonnet, a fixed rear wing, and a rear diffuser with two central pipes.

And it’s not only the visuals, as Porsche will give the GT4 a noticeable power bump over today's most powerful version of the Cayman, the 335hp (340PS) GTS. The question of whether the GT4 will debut Porsche's new line of turbocharged engines or if it will stick to a naturally aspirated flat-six with an output of around 360hp to 400hp remains unanswered.

Elsewhere, the Cayman GT4 will gain a lowered and re-tuned suspension, beefed up brakes, and according to some rumors, it could also be lighter than the GTS.

Porsche has also been spied testing a similar version of the Boxster.

Default Porsche Boxster 'RS Spyder' spied for the first time

Click here to view more photos

More power, less weight

A hotter Porsche Boxster has been spied for the first time testing, prior to an expected launch next year.

Almost a year ago, Porsche introduced a more powerful Boxster GTS with 340 HP & 370 Nm but that won't remain the range-topping version for a long time as a higher specification is being prepared. Porsche has already confirmed it won't be as hardcore as the upcoming Cayman GT4 but nevertheless we should expect even more power from the six-cylinder 3.4-liter boxer engine and it will be wrapped around in a lighter package as the cabin will lose some of the amenities for the sake of shaving off excess weight.

Since we know for sure it won’t be called "Boxster GT4", chances are Porsche will dig up an old moniker and one of the possible candidates is the RS Spyder used back in 2007. That was a special edition developed to celebrate the Porsche Type 718 RS Spyder which triumphed in the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida, United States.

The prototype spotted by our spy photographers had a more aggressive front bumper and an additional air intake at the bottom of the hood, just like in the 911 GT3. Moreover, the rear end shows a ducktail spoiler while the suspension appears to be lower compared to the regular variant.

Porsche will probably decide to reveal the meaner Boxster in 2016 at a starting price considerably higher than the GTS which in Germany kicks off at €69,949.

Nice to start seeing more masculine and aggressive lines on the Boxster. Up until the current 981 I wasn't a fan with exception to the 2009 Boxster Spyder

Default Porsche Cayman GT4 teased in Real Racing 3

Will be unveiled shortly

Porsche and Electronic Arts have quietly released the first teaser image of the Cayman GT4 in Real Racing 3.

The companies were coy on details but hinted players will be able to "participate in the unveiling of a stunning new sports car." The change log also goes on to say a "prestigious manufacturer is about to announce a new vehicle... Be the first to take the wheel."

While Porsche has been tight-lipped about specifics, previous spy photos have shown the model will have an aggressive front bumper, a front lip spoiler and a prominent rear wing. We can also expect lightweight wheels and a high-performance braking system.

The car's engine remains unconfirmed but speculation suggests the Cayman GT4 will use either an upgraded 3.4-liter engine or a detuned version of the 3.8-liter engine that resides in the 911 S.

Default Porsche Cayman GT4 officially unveiled with 385 PS [video]

Debuts in Geneva

Porsche has officially unveiled the Cayman GT4.

Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the car is being described as a "clear statement that Porsche will continue to promote radical two-door sports cars in the future."

Starting with the exterior, the Cayman GT4 has an aggressive front fascia with a front splitter and mesh grille inserts. Moving further back, we can see sportier side scoops, a larger rear spoiler and a fixed rear wing. The model also has a center-mounted dual exhaust system, a 30mm reduced ride height and high-performance brakes from the 911 GT3.

The cabin largely carries over but comes equipped with leather and Alcantara sport seats as well as a sport steering wheel.

Power is provided by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that develops 385 PS (283 kW). It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission that enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 295 km/h (183 km/h). Furthermore, Porsche says the model lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 40 seconds.

If that's not impressive enough, the Cayman GT4 can be equipped with a variety of options including carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber reinforced plastic seats and a special Sport Chrono Package with a unique Track Precision app - among other things.

The Cayman GT4 is currently available to order and German pricing starts at €85,779 (including VAT). U.S. pricing starts at $84,600 - excluding a $995 destination charge - and the first American deliveries are slated for July.

Default Porsche Motorsport Boss Tells Everything There Is to Know about the Cayman GT4

The most hardcore Porsche Cayman ever made, the GT4, is a dream come true for those enthusiasts who have always believed the automaker is keeping its mid-engined coupe underpowered on purpose.

Now Porsche has found a formula to build a very powerful and fast Cayman without making people give up on the 911 – or at least it thinks it has. The fact that the Cayman GT4 was developed by Porsche Motorsport, the same division responsible for the 911 GT3 and other similar products, proves that Porsche was serious about building the ultimate Cayman.

EVO’s Jethro Bovingdon talked to Porsche Motorsport’s GT car boss Andreas Prueninger about the Cayman GT4, which is described as the 911 GT3’s little brother. As you probably know by now, the Cayman GT4 features a 385PS (380hp) 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the 911 Carrera S mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, which allow it to sprint from 0 to 100km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and to reach a top speed of 295km/h (183mph).

It may sound simple, but there are many more changes than the engine (which at first didn’t even fit into the Cayman), and they are all detailed in the video posted below.
