Default Possible four-cylinder Porsche Boxster and Cayman spied on Nurburgring once again

Feature a different engine sound

Possible 4-cylinder prototypes of the Porsche Boxster and the Cayman have been spied once again while being tested on the Nurbirgring.

Similar vehicles were caught on camera at the beginning of this month featuring the same engine sound. We can’t say for sure the prototypes from the video are powered by flat-four units, but judging by the unusual sound in question it seems testing of the firm's newly developed boxer motor has started. Furthermore, back in May Porsche chief Matthias Müller confirmed such an engine for both models is already in the works.

A report from June has suggested the German manufacturer’s new 4-cylinder engine lineup will come in three displacements and all of them will feature a direct injection and will be turbocharged. The portfolio will consists of a 1.6 with 210 bhp (156 kW), a 2.0 that is expected to develop 286 bhp (213 kW) and 399 Nm (295 lb-ft) and a range-topping 2.5 with rumored 360 bhp (268 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft).

Default Mello Yello Cayman S by Porsche Exclusive

Click here to view more photos

Porsche is no stranger to vibrant and sometimes divisive color options for its range of sports car.

If that's your thing, then Porsche Exclusive, the German firm's in-house custom manufacturing department is the place to go to make your colorful dreams come true.

While we wouldn't call a yellow exterior paint job excessive these days, yellow interior trims aren't for everyone, but Porsche Exclusive used them on a special Cayman S with a SportDesign package nonetheless to show us what it can do.

The two-door model has yellow-painted center console trims, air-vent slits and instrument panel gauge backgrounds, while the steering wheel rim and dual-clutch gearbox **** are dressed in dark-grey Alcantara.

why does Porsche need 1.6l 210hp engine?

VAG just cares about sales numbers, nothing is sacred... not that I mind, I like the fact that soon enough anyone will be able to own a Porsche... Macan is getting close, I bet there will be plenty of other models coming in next 5-6 years.

They should make the 2.0L the base engine and call it a day. The last time we saw anything close to 210hp from a Boxster was the pathetic 2.7L in the 986.

The mysterious Boxster/Cayman with turbo 4 are probably 718 mules. Made a thread on it so this can stay Boxster/Cayman related

Default Possible new 211 PS Porsche Boxster leaked through dealer site?

Click here to view more photos

Powered by a 2.7 flat-six engine, not 4-cylinder

A possible new version of the Porsche Boxster with 211 PS (155 kW) has been unofficially introduced through the website of Porsche Belgium.

Still not confirmed by the German manufacturer, the model is already on sale in Belgium at 52,030 EUR (67,500 USD) for the version with manual transmission and at 55,115 EUR (71,500 USD) for the PDK.

Surprisingly, the sports vehicle is not powered by a 4-cylinder unit as it has been rumored for a while now. Instead, it has the standard 2.7-liter flat-six unit detuned to generate 211 PS (155 kW).
Chances are this is a domestic version of the Boxster, made by Porsche Belgium for reduced import taxation, just like their Norwegian colleagues did four years ago.

According to the information, the Boxster sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.4 seconds with manual gearbox and in 6.1 seconds with the PDK automatic. The top speed is 245 km/h (152 mph) and 243 km/h (151 mph) respectively.

No thanks to this 211hp version especially if the Boxster is slated to go upscale if they add the baby 718 sub Boxster

Good thing we're not getting it since it's suppose to be for the German market only. 211PS is quite less than what the current USDM 2.7L puts out.

It'd be like BMW and the 320i/328i. Glad we're not getting a more stripy Porsche with less power and features just so it makes the badge more attainable

Default Porsche 718 not happening, Boxster to remain entry-level model

Not the right time

Porsche Cars North America CEO Detlev von Platen has announced an entry-level model is not being developed.

Lately there have been rumors about a new base model from Porsche commercialized with the "718" moniker but now the company has announced there won't be a sub-Boxster model. After many discussions, Porsche has decided it's not the right time to create a smaller and cheaper alternative to the Boxster/Cayman duo and added the company's entry-level offering is actually represented by the pre-owned program.

von Platen refused to talk about the prospects of a "Ferrari fighter", although reports have been circulating about a 600 bhp flat-eight quad turbo Porsche 988 to compete with the 458 Italia. In addition, he didn't say anything about a smaller Panamera which has been reportedly delayed until 2019.

He did discuss about the Macan which is proving to be more successful than Porsche estimated as now there's a six month waiting list. The average transaction for a Macan S is about $65,000 while the Macan Turbo is sold at an average price tag of $83,000 which means customers are willing to pay 12-14 percent more for optional equipment.
