Whatever Became of Pontiac's Ridiculous Show Car, "The Stinger"?
Maybe along the way they forgot to build cars, electing instead to build the successor to the Swiss Army Knife. Here their concept beach buggy includes not only beer cooler door inserts, but a garden hose and TWO dustbusters.
This '89 concept was nothing more than an accessory platform. Serious during the week, the idea was to pop off the windows, roof and a couple of body panels and you're ready for the beach on Saturday. No mention of how these panels might decide pop themselves off at speed on the freeway.
It was a design exercise for a "fun" car, but the fun was all external. There wasn't a whole lot of "fun" in the "car" part of the concept.

A swiss army knife car. It's amazing how stupid concept cars used to be.
It's as if GM designers invited their kids and and grand kids into the studio and said...have fun!

This is fun in the way that those old Hot Wheels commercials in the 70's were. I can almost hear the groovy music and the over-excited announcer pointing out all the stuff you can do with your PONTIAC STINGERRRR!

Remote keyless entry and memory seats...nice. But then it all unravels...

LOL pretty cool actually!
Weight with all of the accessories though, 5000 lbs.
Powered by a 3.1L OHV V6 and 140hp, mated to a 3-speed automatic "w/OD". Uhh, no.
