Default My modded 2013 Hyundai Elantra... the journey

So I was looking for an econo-box car with relatively good MPG and looks to begin a mod project on. Stumbled on the Hyundai Elantra... Hyundai??? WTH, eh? Well check out my sig file, I have never ever owned a Korean car in my adult life. Long time Lex owner/fan (all SOLD, unfortunately) but now all German lux cars in the stable... Audi, BMW and an AMG

So I bought this new 2013 Hyundai Elantra and began the project. The story will be told in pictures.. So here we go.

On the dealership lot on pick-up day... fully bone stock...

A neighbor of mine also mods his elantra. A lot of it looks OEM, surprised how many options there are for this car

Some nice pictures, Blue....and welcome to CAR CHAT.

You made a good choice with the present-generation Elantra (and good luck with it). Unlike the previous-generation model, the interior/exterior styling is a little too Space-Age for my tastes, but it seems to be a well-built small car, and has an excellent warranty.

Since you are new to CAR CHAT, Here's my personal review of the present-generation Elantra (I occasionally do reviews in this forum, and Hoovey2411 posts a lot of autoblog reviews). I did it a couple of years ago, but it is still essentially the same car today, without a major redesign. I do reviews both spontaneously and, when possible, by CL request....this is a slightly shortened one, but typical of my style.

Thanks. I was going for close to OE look. Got a few sales guys at the Hyundai dealership impressed and taking pics to show their bosses. One told me if Hyundai makes a stock car like mine they'd sell them out...

I'd believe it.

Lighting gives a car so much personality at night

Thanks Bit. The E is mine as my DD so that the SLK remains the weekend/nice day ride. My older daughter drives the A4 since she turned 16, now at 21, that car is like crap but she loves it so. My other daughter lives in NYC so no need for a car...

Thanks so much. I agree. The lights made the most dramatic change with the DRL on.

Love that rear duel exhaust diffuser. The trapezoid exhaust tips flow perfectly

Excellent review, Mike. I agree with your pluses and minuses... For me the worst minus is the tail waging on that car. It floats around on the freeways, and can get pretty bouncy around manholes and dips. Many E owners quickly replaced the rear shocks with KYBs which helped but didn't quite eliminate the hop around. Rear sway bays are much needed to stiffen the rear and balance out the handling... One area some of us are exploring is the ability to shim the solid rear axle to be able to truly improve handling with a full 4-wheel alignment. Right now the rear is non-adjustable which sucks... I am looking to find a specialist alignment shop that can shim the rear and get it adjusted to make the car perform much better.

Finally, the 143Hp motor is anemic and really lacks any true performance. Turbo kits are still in development so no help for now... If one becomes available I may be tempted...

We shall see...

I think that is the glare/reflection from the license plate LED lighting shining off the curves of the bumper.
