Cop lets speeding G55 AMG driver go on Thanksgiving in exchange for revving engine

This man quickly became the coolest cop ever when he let a speeding driver off on Thanksgiving, asking him to rev his engine instead.

The driver's friend videos the whole exchange as the cropped-haired policeman begins writing a ticket out.

But just a few seconds pass before he says: "It's a nice ride man, what the hell is it?"

The driver, clearly seeing his chance, tells him its a supercharged eight cylinder AMG engine, and cost him a whopping $100,000.

The shocked officer asks if it's in park, before getting the delighted driver to rev the engine for him.

The roar from the bonnet puts any worries of a punishment to rest as the policeman grins and the lucky pair laugh.

The driver reveals he works for an oil and gas company, and the cop asks: "Man are you hiring? Because these guys don't pay for ******."

With a light-hearted warning to slow down, he walks off and forgets all about the ominous paper in his hand.

What oil company, though, will let you retire after only 20 years, with a lifetime pension and a health plan? And give your widow or widower a lifetime pension when you pass away? True, cops sometimes have to put their lives on the line (just like military people), but they also get military-style benefits.

Many cops will give you a break if your record is relatively clean, your car is properly registered, you don't sass at them or try to act like you know it all, or have any outstanding warrants on you. They can usually check all that, of course, right there in their cruiser's portable computer. That's why, when they ask you for license/registration, they ask to sit and wait a minute while they go back to their car....most of the time, they're checking over your record to see how much of a risk you are.

There was an interesting study a while back that showed people will generally drive at a speed that they deem appropriate for conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.

If the posted speed limit on a major, wide, flat interstate highway is 65 MPH, most people will still probably go 75-80 in the slow lane and maybe 80-85 in the fast lane.

If you increase the posted speed limit by 10, people don't usually start going 85-90 in the slow lane and 90-95 in the fast lane.

People, though, aren't always as good a judge of what conditions are safe and what aren't as the engineers and technicians who actually desgined/built the roads and maintain them. That's because many (if not most) people are concerned only about themselves, and how they can get from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible, not about ultimate public-safety. Engineers, though, and local/state governments have to think of everyone, and what are the safest speeds for traffic as a whole, knowing that not all vehicles/drivers have the same level of driving skill, not all tires have the same amount of traction on slippery surfaces, etc.....
