2014 Toyota Harrier (luxury version of Rav4, used to be based on RX)
Toyota has officially unveiled in Japan the 2014 Harrier which is basically a rebadged version of the Lexus RX.
The car is scheduled to go on sale on December 2nd with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT sending power to a standard two-wheel drive or an optional four-wheel drive system. The power unit develops 151 HP (111 kW) and a peak torque of 193 Nm and enables the car to have a fuel consumption in the JC08 Japanese cycle of 16 km/l (6.2 liters / 100 km or 37.9 mpg US or 45.5 mpg UK).
Wait until January 15, 2014 and you can order the new Harrier in a hybrid version equipped with a 2.5-liter engine and an electric motor providing a combined output of 196 HP (144 kW) and 206 Nm (152 lb-ft). Toyota mentions the Harrier Hybrid will be sold exclusively with a four-wheel drive arrangement.

Interior looks really good, which bodes well on NX, which is probably its sibling of sorts and it will look even better.
Some trick features include:
- A/C evap system that allows A/C cooling while engine is off
- New pre-crash safety system that works in city and parking lots, also steers the car for line change
- 2.0 AR engine is used in base car, same one that will likely be turboed for 2.0t
- Real torque vectoring on individual wheels in 2.0l AWD models, trick e-awd torque vectoring on hybrids, battery is under seats and slightly more powerful than Camry's
- Panoramic roof that half open
- Panoramic parking view with 4 cameras
- Trick LED headlights and strips.
- FAD variable shock absorbers (introduced on 2013 LS)
- hybrid has anti-pitch system like in Prius v.
- Hybrid is pretty heavy, starts at 3900 lbs (it has 3 electric motors).
- Petrol engine AWD is lighter, 3600 lbs, FWD 3500 lbs.
To compare the specs with Camry Hybrid on US market, Harrier Hybrid AWD is 450 lbs heavier. So maybe 0-60 in 8.5s real life? I have a feeling you guys will never see this engine in the USA :-).

it may be similar to NX in some ways most likely :-).
You are also kind of right, doesnt seem like they launched new Rav4 in Japan at all... this is supposed to be big seller for them, but pricing is premium, like Crown basically, this is near-luxury vehicle.

I believe this was discussed before, and I thought it was determined that Harrier is still based on last gen RX (2004-2009). Just updated trim and content inside, and then some freshening on exterior.

1. I thought most Hybrids have more torque than horsepower
2. Most Hybrids offer standard FWD and optional AWD. Interesting choice. If there was no difference in fuel economy between a FWD and AWD version of this then I understand offering AWD standard.

Not too fond of this. Looks rather pieced together.
I may be in the minority here, but I quite like the current Rav4 we have here in NA.

it was, it is not true though... it is Rav4 based, has Rav4 engines and exactly the same wheelbase as Rav4. It has same features too... it is luxury version of Rav4 for Japanese market.
It looks similar to old RX because it is evolution of Toyota design.

Well, AWD is "free" here, as it is electric, so you dont spend extra fuel on AWD, except for the weight of the electric motors. I guess with MPG being only 8% less than Camry Hybrid, with all this extra weight, it is really "free". They can probably justify it as it gives more performance, awd, etc.
But 2.0t will have dynamic torque vectoring for turbo.

Can you share where you found the specs (wheelbase, etc) of this 2014 Harrier?
