There's word from the top that Cadillac is considering building a large crossover and branding it under the Escalade name, Automotive News reports.

Bob Ferguson, senior vice president of Cadillac, told AN that he thinks "there's a lot of equity in Escalade" after the 2015 model was unveiled yesterday in New York. "I'd like to explore the notion of other vehicles that would carry that brand name," he said.

According to Ferguson, General Motors product planners are exploring the possibility of a large crossover on a unibody platform in the same vein as GM's other large CUVs, the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse. The 2015 Escalade uses a truck-derived, body-on-frame platform.

Ferguson says that no decisions on an Escalade crossover have been made at this time.

Hmm interesting. I'm normally not a fan of badge engineering but this new 7/8 Crossover for Cadillac could prove useful in the future.

The new Escalade is out, so it won't change anytime soon, but in a few years time when this fullsize Crossover is ready, Cadillac has a chance to elevate the Escalade's status to better combat the MBZ GL-Class and G-Class, Lexus LS and Land Rover Range Rover. There is potential, let's just hope GM sees this

They should rebadge something on the Acadia platform, but not call it Escalade, IMO.

Well, at least it doesn't seem to be going the alphabet-soup route in naming. Cadillac and Lincoln, so far, have kept both of their big SUVs out of the confusing letter-combinations that most of their other products have.
