McLaren P1 on throttle at the 'Ring is drugs for your ears

We've heard engine noise from the McLaren P1 before, most recently from its run up the hill at Goodwood, and when McLaren F1 driver Sergio Perez lapped the Top Gear test track. But those sound clips have been from inside the cabin, and while plenty throaty, rather sedate.

Not this time. Although it's only 25 seconds long, someone managed to get next to the tarmac at the Nürburgring while the P1 was practicing a strafing run. A 3.8-liter V8, two turbos and an electric motor can fire 903 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque from behind the driver's cabin, and it sounds like almost all of it is being employed. Ladies and gentlemen, a brand new sound has entered the world of supercars.

It does sound like an interesting engine. I can't wait to see the future of cars and super/hypercars of the future with more powerful electric motors.

Sounds pretty good but with the turbo motor you lose that scream that you get with the NA V12s. I still love this car. In fact I think I like it more than LaFerrari

That electric whine at 0:15 pretty much killed the enjoyment, it will be quite annoying to live with.

Cant be worse than any of the other blown sports cars. In fact I think you would just get used to it. I do think in this segment of the market the emotion of that a car can stir is vital. When it sounds like that the soundtrack will not stir the emotion within the driver like the sound of a NA V12 about 6-7000 rpm. Even Pagani had to try to tweak the sound of his monster V12 because the turbo kills the sound
