Mitsubishi Motors Announces Pricing for the All-New 2014 Mirage, the Most Fuel-Efficient Gasoline-Powered Non-Hybrid Vehicle in America
Mon, Aug 19, 2013 - Cypress, California -

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today announced that the company's all-new 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage 5-door sub-compact – the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gasoline-powered vehicle available in America with an EPA rated fuel economy of 44 mpg highway (CVT-equipped models) – will have a starting MSRP* of only $12,995.

The all-new 2014 Mirage offers best-in-class fuel economy with an EPA rating of 37 mpg city/44 mpg highway/40 mpg combined (CVT-equipped models; 5-speed manual transmission model delivers an EPA fuel economy rating of 34 mpg city/42 mpg highway/37 mpg combined).

Major contributors to the new Mirage's outstanding fuel efficiency are its exceptionally clean exterior with its very low 0.28 drag coefficient, an engine equipped with the latest version of Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-timing system, and Electric Power Steering (EPS) that does away with fuel-burning parasitic drag on the engine from a conventional hydraulic-based power steering.

Every 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is equipped with a comprehensive list of advanced safety features including a seven (7) air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL), Mitsubishi Motors' patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) impact-absorbing safety cell technology, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and convenient Hill Start Assist (HSA included on CVT-equipped models).

Featuring a plethora of welcome standard amenities, the $12,995 MSRP starting price for the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage DE model includes automatic climate control, keyless entry with panic alarm, sporty-looking rear spoiler, upscale piano black center console trim, auto-off halogen headlights, rear heater floor ducts, plus much more.

For only $1,200 more, the 2014 Mirage ES model includes all of the standard features from the DE trim level while adding FAST (Free-hand Advanced Security Transmitter)-key passive entry, One-Touch Start/Stop (OSS) engine switch, Bluetooth© hands-free phone system, steering wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, 14-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift ****, fog lamps, silver interior accent trim, and other features. What's more, an available Navigation Package adds helpful features including a SD card-based navigation system and rearview camera system.

Apparantly the old Colt/Champ (in a 5-door version) from the late 70s/early 80s has come back to the American market in a more modern form.

This car, BTW, had better sell. If it doesn't, I wouldn't bet on Mitsubishi being in the American market much longer. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi made the same mistake that Suzuki did before they recently left the U.S.....letting their dealer-network simply get too sparse instead of keeping up their franchises. You've got to have dealerships to sell cars.

The reason it gets 40mpg is light weight. Yeah the 17"/18" alloys that are pretty standard on most new cars look great, but they weigh a ton. Those little 14" aluminum wheels are LIGHT.

Of course it wouldn't surprise me if this thing feels like a sardine can. You know, noisy, doors close with a tink instead of THUNK, probably gets blown around on the highway real bad, the ultra thin sheet metal gets dings/dents if you look at it funny.

This thing kind of reminds me of the old Geo Metro from the 90's. Has a 3 cylinder engine like that car, ugly, known for being the cheapest thing you can buy.

sure... in Europe, they call it space star, which was Large MPV back in 90's.

in reality, it is cheap car made for 3rd world countries and also sold in western world... i expect no sales.

This thing ain't sellin'. Put a fork in Mitsu, they're almost done here in America.

Most people would rather have a used Corolla or Honda Fit, or a decently-equipped Hyundai.

Such a waste of an effort... ...and that cheap price won't sway people enough.

Probably too early to tell. It hasn't been introduced here long enough. The sparse Mitsu dealer-network, of course, doesn't help.

Part of that is simply because Mitsu dealerships are so few and far between. It's a lot easier to travel a couple of miles to the nearest Toyota/Honda shop (even for a used car) than it is 50 miles or more to a Mitsu shop.

Maybe, maybe not. The Nissan Versa's El Cheapo prices do seem to be swaying people. To an extent, you get what you pay for, but the Versa does offer some extra size over the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio. The Mirage, though, doesn't necessarily offer that extra size.

seems an impressive package to me! especially say for college kids or even high school grads. won't get them in much trouble, and a nice warranty unlike some used car.

The Mirage was a little compact back in the early '90's with 2 door and 4 door variants. It was "kinda" sporty pocket rocket type car, in looks but not really in performance. So they are reviving that "thing" lol Hope to see it on the highway when I blast by them
