Steve Sutcliffe drives the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG. With 355bhp from its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine it's certainly powerful, but is it worth £44,595? And is it as good as the stunning A45 AMG hatchback?

How Does the Lexus NX Stack Up Against the Mercedes GLA?
Will the Mercedes GLA crossover be cross-shopped by Lexus NX buyers? AutoGuide thinks so and it’s put together a little comparison to see just what you’re really getting.
The most noticeable difference between the two vehicles is their size. The Lexus offers quite a bit more interior space thanks to its larger dimensions, and it’s reportedly very refined – reviewer calls it a “baby RX” in the way it feels on the road.
The smaller Mercedes can’t match it for feeling like an SUV (if that’s what you’re into…). The NX is nothing like a hatchback, although you can’t really say the same for the GLA.
If it’s performance you’re after, then the NX wins again; the comparable 2.0-liter turbo engine puts out more power and it’s enough to make it feel faster. Apparently, had it not been for the GLA’s clever seven-speed dual-clutch, it would have much more noticeably trailed the Lexus in terms of go.

Yes, that was my first reaction, too....why not the GLK? But, taking a closer look at the GLK and GLA, the GLA does seems a little closer to the NX in price, styling, overall size, and general execution. The GLK is higher, boxier, plusher, somewhat more expensive, and, though not a Jeep Wrangler or Land Rover by any means, seems designed more for mild off-roading than either the GLA or NX.

On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman travels out to the wilds of the Anza Borrego desert with the goal of figuring out which small, sporty, pricey, German SUV is best: the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG or the Porsche Macan Turbo. But it’s not the off-road trails that Jonny’s interested in – the AMG may very well be allergic to dirt – but rather the serpentine road that climbs up, and then up some more. These two may look like SUVs, but they’re much closer to sports cars. Packing 400-horsepower, will the Porsche’s 45-horsepower advantage beat out the smaller, lighter, and still plenty powerful, GLA45? Or will the jacked-up red hatchback from Affalterbach put a beat-down on a genuine Porsche Turbo? There’s only one way to find out!

Sometimes, it pays to wait. Mercedes-Benz could've jumped into the subcompact-SUV genre when competitors like the BMW X1 hit the market, but their patience produced the sleekly styled 2015 GLA-Class. Join KBB's Micah Muzio as he reviews Merc's latest entry-level sport ute.

Because so many of you were asking about the changes for 2016 at the same time I had the 2015 GLA, this video if a mix of the 2015 GLA and details on what changes for 2016. Pricing hadn't been announced for 2016 when this video was shot.
