2014 Mazda6 to start at $20,880*

We got our very first taste of the impressive 2014 Mazda6 back in October, and had more than a few good things to say about the midsizer. One piece of information that was conspicuous by its absence, however, was a sticker price.

Now, with zero pomp and circumstance (not even a press release as of this writing), Mazda has dropped what looks to be official pricing for the 6 on its consumer website.

$20,880 is the asking price for the base Mazda6 Sport with a manual transmission (plus $795 worth of destination charges, for a total of $21,675). Alaska residents will need to cough up $840 for destination. The loaded-up Mazda6 Grand Touring shown on the site will set you back a total of $30,290 (MSRP of $29,495), but it isn't clear if that's the starting price of the Grand Touring trim. Mazda is taking orders for the new 6 right now, and the cars will be available on January 2, 2013.

By way of comparison, the current 2013 model year Mazda6 starts at just $155 less than the new car, with an MSRP of $20,725 (before destination charges) for the base model. Interestingly, the outgoing top-of-the line Grand Touring trim is actually more expensive than the MY14 car on the site, with a sticker of $29,990 to start. We imagine that incentives on leftover 2013 models will start flowing pretty quickly, bringing down their prices quite a bit, but all of this still points to a rocking value proposition for Mazda's newest model.

I see some great things coming from Mazda. The new CX-5 and Mazda6 are just two reasons.

An AWD Mazda 6 MPS with automatic gearbox could be very tempting especially if the price is right.

you guys better buy some... it is ridiculous how low Mazda6 sold in US.
It seems very good car at very good price... Mazda is not doing well right now so I hope this picks it up in the US.

Yes, Mazda needs the 6 to be a winner here is the U.S. That segment is huge and they need a bigger chunk of it.

The 3 is solid, CX5 doing very well and if the 6 is successful it will be very good for them. Good for buyers too, as they make good cars IMO.

yeah, 3 does well... CX5 will do even better with 2.5l engine next year too. Just need's 6 to tripple its numbers. If Kia can do it, so can Mazda, with better car too.

There is no up-level engine. Mazda can no longer raid the Ford parts bin for a Duratec V6. This will hurt sales.

That price isn't bad at all, their sales should spike up IMO...

Mazda has a great lineup for sometime and smartly got rid of the smiley face. Let us hope their marketing steps it up b/c people simply do not correlate Mazda with some sporty brand even with "Zoom Zoom". Their cars deserve better and I hope they get it together.

Boo @ no v6 duratec. That was arguably the most reliable part when I owned mines for over 6 years. That 2.5L sounds peppy. Pricing's decent. Purchased a mazda6 v6 5 speed (cloth interior, hardtop) for an even $20K back in 2003

When the diesel bows for the 6 here in the States, I'll considering picking one up as a daily. Can't wait to see how it compares to the Passat TDI in comparo tests

the problem is, what specifically makes it better, or even significantly different in any way, from altima, accord, camry, sonata, optima, fusion, etc., etc.?

without clear differentiation, a 'me too' product will fail.
